Tax-free weekend just around the corner

August 17, 2011

Local department stores and shops are preparing for a crazy weekend on August 19, 20 and 21 - the state’s annual tax holiday.
Wal-Mart Manager Gary Flecher believes his store is ready for the chaotic weekend.
Fletcher stated, “The Wal-Mart home office ships supplies along with items the local store has ordered including back-to-school items and tons of other items that shoppers can save on.”
Fletcher also stated, “We are doing something a bit different this year. We will hold the store open all night Thursday, and at 12:01 a.m. shoppers can get a jump start on shopping tax free.”

Animals at Borger shelter in need of good homes

August 17, 2011

Now is the time to adopt a new furry family member.
The Borger Animal Control constantly receives animals needing good homes. Animal Control Director Betsy Parks stated they are constantly receiving animals at the shelter. Last year, the shelter received 691 dogs and 409 cats. 44 percent of those animals are either sent back to their owners or adopted out, while the other percentage of animals are euthanized.
Adoptability is all determined on whether the shelter has space, the age of the animal, health, and whether the animal is aggressive.
