Local officials investigating several weekend fires

Officials are currently investigating several fires that burned in Hutchinson County throughout this weekend.
During the weekend, there was a total of 18 reported fires.
On Saturday June 25, 2011, a total of 10 fires broke out two miles south of Stinnett on Highway 152 around noon. Then, four more fires were reported at 12:05 p.m. on Highway 687 the same day.
Firefighters from Stinnett, Fritch, Borger, and Hutchinson County also responded to a fire that started from a downed electrical line.

Keeping safe in the hot summer heat

To say temperatures in Borger and Hutchinson County are hot right now is an understatement.
With that said, there are some important things people need to remember to safeguard themselves and those they love from the summer heat.
In order to prevent summer heat exhaustion, it is important to follow a few safety tips and look for signs. A person’s temperature should never reach 105 degrees as it could result in heatstroke.
Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards said that if a person has heatstroke, the person probably isn’t sweating much, and his/her pulse may be rapid.

Museum hosts annual Adobe Walls Trek Saturday

The Hutchinson County Historical Museum hosted its Annual Adobe Walls Trek this past Saturday, which was filled with a variety of activities and special guests. Left, among the special guests were Glen and Ardith Parker Leming, who took time to visit with Museum Director Wes Phillips at the museum prior to the trek. A. Leming is the great-granddaughter of Quanah Parker. Right, many local citizens traveled out to the Adobe Walls Site, where they got to hear traditional Indian songs and stories and see a cedar smoking ceremony.
