Yesterday a fire broke out in an unoccupied home in the 300 block of Wilson St. Chief Bob Watson of the Borger Fire Department stated that they received the call at 12:39 p.m. and the scene was clear at 2:56 p.m. He also said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation and that there was no one hurt during the fire, just that the back of the house had some significant damage to it.

Vietnam Veterans of America will be awarding their 2011 annual scholarships to four Hutchinson County high school seniors. There will be a scholarship that will be awarded to a senior from each high school in the county. Interested applicants must submit an essay to enter.
Application forms and information were distributed to each of the Hutchinson County High Schools earlier in the year. The application process will close on April 15, 2011.
The HutchCares Living at Home Appreciation Banquet is coming up this Tuesday March 22, 2011 at 7 p.m. in the Fairlanes Baptist Church, 3000 Fairlanes Blvd.
There will be a silent auction at 6:30pm that all guests are eligible to participate in. There will also be live entertainment.
The Hutchinson County and the Hansford County are seeking any interested individuals that would enjoy becoming a part of the Crime Stoppers board.
There will be a open meeting for any inquiry for that position, and the public is welcome to attend the next board meeting, scheduled for March 24, 2011, at 7 p.m. at City Hall located at 600 N. Main Street, Borger.
A Borger man was charged with DWI after crashing into a local business early Wednesday morning.
According to witness reports, Donney Schultz, 27, of Borger, left the Main Street Bar at 12:05 a.m. and was headed north on Main Street.
He ran the stop sign at the intersection of Seventh and Main Streets and struck a vehicle.
He continued to proceed down Main, and ended up hitting and side-swiping a second vehicle in the process.
After this, Schultz’s vehicle spun out of control, causing him to hit Dake’s Restaurant. He was taken to Golden Plains Community Hospital for treatment.

Stinnett EMS will be hosting the 11th Annual Computer Concepts MGMT Shotmaker Tournament.
All funds provided for this tournament will go to the Stinnett EMS to provide training and essential equipment that is needed.
The tournament will be held on April 16, 2011, at the Phillips Municipal Golf Course in Borger. Computer Concepts MGMT is still committed as the gold sponsor this year and there are sponsorship opportunities at the silver and bronze levels. The EMS still needs all the sponsorship it can get.
Various local citizens took part in a weather spotters’ class Thursday evening at the Fritch City Annex. Top left, special speaker for the class was Justyn Jackson, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Amarillo.

The Borger Police Department recently made some changes in its fleet, ones that will continue to help the department put the safety of citizens first.
According to its annual report, last year the department looked hard at its vehicle fleet to determine what (if any) changes needed to be made. Things that were examined included appearance, maintenance, number of vehicles, how they were utilized, cost, and fuel consumption.
