The Hutchinson County United Way celebrated another successful campaign year Thursday.
During the victory luncheon at Graced Land East, HCUW Executive Director Julie Winters announced that this year’s campaign brought in $625,540.17, exceeding the original goal of $615,000.
Winters said this year’s campaign marks her eighth with the organization. She said it is the work of citizens that makes such campaigns a success.
“United Way is the people of our community,” she said. “It’s people like you who make it work.”
Various awards were given out during the luncheon festivities.
December is the month of giving. Giving blood can be just the greatest gift to give to someone who needs it and that gratification of knowing you saved a life for Christmas.
Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be holding a blood drive will be in Fritch on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at First Southern Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall from 2:30 till 6:30 p.m.
The new Subway of Borger is now open for business! It is located directly in front of Holiday Inn Express. Operating partners are Frank and Sherry Wingate and Jeff and René Brain.

The Red Hat Mamas will have their Christmas dinner on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at the Borger Opportunities Center, 930 Illinois.
The group will meet at the center at 11 a.m. and dinner will be served a little after 11:30 a.m.
The cost of the meal is $4 for senior citizens and $5 for those under the age of 50.
Red Hat Mamas is a club that is open to all women ages 50 or more.
Please make reservations by calling Dorothy Cates at 273-3329 by the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 13.
Hutchinson County Museum’s Annual Christmas Exhibit is feature one sixth scale military action figures in period uniforms with weapons, and other scale models from the collection of Greg Thompson on display from from now through Dec. 28, 2011.
“I enjoy watching children as they view the collection with wide eyes and exclamations of golly and wow. I want kids to know that history is more fun than Facebook,” says Greg.
