Shot fired in the midst of police car chase

A shot was fired in the midst of a police car chase early Saturday morning in Stinnett just after midnight.
The suspect rammed one of the police patrol units heading north. A chase continued on foot in the same direction, when a fired was shot by an officer.
There were no injuries, but one officer went to the hospital on his own for safety precautions.

Borger High band preparing for brisket dinner

Payden Dompe, Kinsey Grieb, Vanessa Smith, and Kayla Castleberry are among the Borger High band students helping prepare for the Borger Band Boosters Annual Brisket Dinner, scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the American Legion Hall, 1000 Bulldog Lane. Tickets can be purchased from BHS Band Students or at the door for $5 each. To go orders are available.

Four arrested on narcotics charges

Jose “Junior” Fernandez, Francisco “Frank” Fernandez, Aaron Fernandez and Thomas Joseph Salazar, all of Borger, were arrested on Thursday, October 27, 2011 following investigations by Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) personnel. Arrest warrants were issued under the authority of the United States based on Special Agent Daryl Walker’s personal knowledge, experience and investigations of the four men who allegedly conspired to have with intent to distribute narcotics (including cocaine and methamphetamine.

Charges against Amy Fernandez

Amy Fernandez of Borger has been charged with structuring, or attempting to structure, a financial transaction.
In the criminal complaint, filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas (Amarillo Division), Fernandez allegedly structured, attempted to structure, and attempted to assist in structuring currency transactions with one or more domestic financial institutions, by purchasing 39 cashier's checks with United States currency in amounts of $3,000 or less.

Borger family, others arrested for federal offenses

Throughout the past few weeks, special agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have arrested nine individuals in the Amarillo area on various felony drug charges in recently unsealed federal criminal complaints, according to U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas.
On Thursday afternoon, defendants Jose “Junior” Fernandez, 36; Aaron Fernandez, 26; and Thomas Joseph Salazar, 23, appeared before Magistrate Judge Clinton E. Averitte and were ordered to be detained pending further court proceedings.

Local business raising funds for United Way

Happy State Bank is currently raising funds for United Way. Each employee has decorated a pumpkin. Customers coming in the bank can give a donation as a vote for the best pumpkin. Donations will be given to Hutchinson County United Way. Showing off the pumpkins that customers can vote on are Jamie Deaton, Hanna Davis, Jennifer McKinney, and Terri Reneau.

Work on new Subway progressing

Work on Borger’s new Subway restaurant is continuing to progress.
Frank Wingate, one of the operating partners of Subway, said work on the new location is going well, although things have gone a little slower than anticipated.
“We had a delay of some of the materials that has slowed us up some,” he said. “We definitely won’t be serving turkey for Thanksgiving at the store.”
However, Wingate did say the store equipment is due to arrive now at the end of November and they will get everything up and running and training folks in the early days of December.
