David Talbot visits Borger to talk about Crutches for Africa. David says' "We toil together to enable those we may never see. Hobbled in life by some illness, accident or act of violance. Many are hopeless. The generous donations given to Crutches 4 Africa are the tools we use to help raise the hindered, to lift them from the dust, and help them on their way." You may donate your mobility devices to the Borger News Herald, H & H Printing or Ameriprise between now and April 30th. These devices will then be shipped to Africa for distribution.
Alta Mae Novotny, 100, died February 23, 2014 in Borger. Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel, with Rev. C. W. Parker, Odyssey Hospice chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Novotny was born April 2, 1913 in Freemount, Missouri to John and Mary Smith. She met and married the love of her life, Adolph Novotny, in 1947. He preceded her in death in 2003.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has released identity of a man killed in a bizarre auto accident over the weekend of February 15 and 16.
Ezequiel Perez, 22, was on his way to Stinnett from Borger in a 1999 Honda 4-door car when he drifted onto the guard rail at the Canadian River bridge outside of town, according to a report by Senior Trooper Chris Ray of the DPS.
The guard rail impact caused the car "to vault into the river bottom," coming to rest between the southbound and northbound sections of teh bridge, said the release.

Randall (“Hoppy”) H. Latimer 88 died peacefully Tuesday February 18, 2014 in his own bed after a long struggle with cancer. The funeral services will be held at the Gateway Baptist Church in Borger at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday February 22, 2104. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park where military service will be conducted. Randall H. Latimer was born October 10, 1925 to John and Nora Latimer in St. Louis, Oklahoma. After returning from the war, Randall married Bobbie Sue Pitts, his high school sweetheart. They have been married for 67 years.
