Council set to meet Tuesday

May 2, 2011

The Borger City Council will be meeting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
The council will be acting on an interlocal agreement between the Borger Independent School District and the City of Borger for the 2011-12 School Resource Office Program, and will consider action to close the north half of the 600 block of North Main Street from 6-11:30 a.m. on June 25, 2011.

John Ray running for Borger City Council, Place 2

John Ray is running for Borger City Council, Place 2.
Ray moved to Borger in March of 1981 from Chanute, Kan. to work for the City of Borger.
"The people here are kind, made you feel that you belonged here," he said. "[I] stayed here, raised my family and grandkids. This is home."
He worked for the Borger Police Department from March 1981 to October 1993. He started as a patrolman and eventually worked as a sergeant and department photographer.

Bulldogs clinch District 1-3A title with win over Pampa

The Borger Bulldogs entered Friday’s game against the Pampa Harvesters with one mission: Win the district title. After a strong third inning offensively and a solid outing by starting pitcher Hunter Hertel, mission accomplished as Borger won 7-2 Friday in Borger.
This was the fourth time the Bulldogs defeated the Harvesters. Head coach Steve Ribera said that’s tough for a team to do.
“These kids had a mission for sure to win a district championship,” Ribera said. “They came out and got it done.”

Lady Bulldogs top Levelland in 3A Bi-District playoff

HEREFORD-Making their first playoff appearance in several years, there is no question that there had to be some concern to how nervous the Borger Lady Bulldogs were going to be as they opened the 3A playoffs against the Levelland Loboettes on Friday evening in Hereford.
Fortunately the Lady Bulldogs answered that question by playing a solid game offensively and defensively to leave the field with an 11-5 win and advance to the 3A Area round, where they will take on Andrews next weekend.

West Texas Comanches shut out Shamrock to end regular season

The West Texas High Comanches must have been a little ticked off after their loss to Boys Ranch earlier this week, because they put it to the Irish yesterday, 13-0 in five innings. Senior Logan Hoff led the attack with two home runs in the first inning and Big Ty Lay knocked one over in the third. The Tribe batted around in the bottom of the first, sending twelve hitters to the plate. Hoff is the lead off batter and had a full count when he sent his first one over the fence. In fact, the entire Tribe had a great day at the plate.

Lady Plainsmen take two from Clarendon College

Friday afternoon the Frank Phillips College left Clarendon with 7-4 and 9-3 wins in WJCAC play.
The two teams finish their four game series on Saturday in Borger.

Shirley Del Mashburn

Shirley Del Mashburn, 78, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m Tuesday in “Resthaven Garden” at Highland Park Cemetery with Rev. Chris Rawlinson, pastor of Gateway Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mrs. Mashburn was born on May 23, 1932, in Amarillo and had been a Borger resident for 25 years. She was secretary and a member of Gateway Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Mashburn in 1999.

Peggy Joyce Fields, loving wife and devoted mother, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 23, 2011, in Panhandle.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Burkholder, Pastor officiating. Cremation is under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Early voting begins Monday for BISD board, city council

Let the voting begin!
Early voting is set to start Monday, May 2, 2011, at Borger City Hall, for the Borger City Council and Borger Independent School District Board of Trustees.
The voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday, and these hours will run every day through Friday, May 6, 2011. Early voting will also take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 9-10.
The general election will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011. The polling places are as follows:
Precinct 11 – Borger Middle School, 1200 South Florida
Precincts 33 and 42 – Paul Belton Learning Center, 800 North McGee

Borger native biking in mother’s honor

A Borger native is currently taking a special bike ride to honor breast cancer patients, with one especially dear to her heart in mind: her mother.
With plans to ride and raise $100,000 to honor her mother Martha Vinyard, Michelle Cooper, former Miss Borger 1987 and professional skydiver turned cyclist is riding her bicycle from Phoenix, Ariz. To Borger. The ride began on April 27, and will conclude on May 8. Cooper is hoping to raise funds for breast cancer patients.
