Local youth soccer players take part in soccer camp preview

Thursday evening Nick Rundell of Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp held a free preview for soccer players in the area to demonstrate some of the skills and exercies the players can learn when the camp comes to Borger in July.
The camp will be open for players ages 3-14 years old.

St. John’s to hold annual spaghetti dinner

A local parish is set to host its annual spaghetti dinner in just two days.
St. John’s Catholic Church, at 201 St. John’s Road, will hold its 56th annual Italian meatballs and spaghetti dinner from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011.
Tickets are currently available for adults and children and will also be available at the door the day of the dinner. Take-outs will be available as well.

HCHD continues EMS consolidation discussion

Discussion on the consolidation of EMS services in Hutchinson County continued Monday evening during the regular meeting of the Hutchinson County Hospital District Board of Directors.
The proposal that has been discussed for several months now is the possibility of consolidating the EMS services of Borger, Fritch, and Stinnett into a County EMS that would be managed by the HCHD.

District 1-3A Tennis Tournament underway

The District 1-3A Tennis Tournament got underway this morning bringing tennis players to Borger from Pampa, Dalhart and Perryton.
Through the morning matches, Borger Head Tennis Coach Jeff Pinkerton said he was pleased so far on how well his players have done.
The tournament will last throughout the day.

Purser talks new direction in Borger basketball

Shortly after the Borger Bulldog basketball season came to an end in February, longtime Borger Boys Head Basketball Coach Lance Simpson was reassigned within the athletic department.
Borger Athletic Director Rusty Purser said he believed it was time for the basketball program to go in a new direction.
On Wednesday morning, Purser took a couple of minutes to talk about the circumstances surrounding the decision to make a change as well as how the search for a new coach has gone over the past month.

West Texas Comanches run-rule Booker Kiowas on Tuesday

On Tuesday evening, the West Texas High Comanches improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in District 6-1A by defeating the Booker Kiowas 16-6 in six innings up in Booker.
The Comanches jumped out earlym scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, then posted five runs in both the fourth and sixth innings while taking advantage of nine Kiowa errors throughout the game.
Senior Logan Hoff got the win on the pitching mound going five innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs. Hoff also had a homerun and two RBI’s at the plate.

Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles get District 1-2A win

Wednesday evening the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles got into the District 1-2A win column by defeating the Bushland Lady Falcons 8-7 in Fritch.
The Lady Eagles will next host Childress on Saturday starting at noon

CWB holding “No Excuse For Abuse” 5K run April 23

The Child Welfare Board is commemorating Child Abuse Prevention Month with a first-time event on April 23.
The board will be holding the first annual “No Excuse For Abuse!!” 5k fun run/walk for Child Abuse Prevention Month starting at 8 a.m. April 23, 2011, on Main Street in Borger.
The event is sponsored by Road ID. The race will start at from the park beside the museum on Main Street.
Registration for the event is only $25 for ages 10 and up.
Children under 10 can participate for free, but will need a registered parent with them in the race.

Working to keep citizens safe

The Borger Fire Department had a busy day Wednesday. After fighting a fire on Chaparral Street early in the day, firefighters were in the alley of Pinehurst Street conducting prescribed burns as a way to keep those homes in that area protected from potential wildfires.

Borger takes care of Pampa 13-5

PAMPA-After a rough outing in Perryton on Saturday, there was plenty of curiosity in wondering how the Borger Bulldogs would respond when they took the field in Pampa on Tuesday to take on the District 1-3A leading Harvesters.
Fortunately it looks as if Saturday’s loss lit a fire under the Bulldogs. The team put together a game that included good pitching, solid defense and hot bats to leave Harvester Field with a 13-5 win to end the first round of district play with a 2-1 record and going to 11-10-1 overall for the season.

  The Future Lady Bulldog Basketball Camp will be held on July 14th through the 17th.
