Hackett hired as new FPC Men's Basketball Coach

Chris Hackett begins his first year as head men’s basketball coach at Frank Phillips College. He comes to FPC after spending the last five years as the top assistant at NCAA program, Florida Tech. During his time there, the Panthers produced one of the best turnarounds in school history, including the first 20 - win season in over a decade, a school record 11-0 start and being ranked as high as #11 in the nation. They also recorded six wins over top-25 teams.

Back to State: Maddens win regional title

One thing we have learned in high school sports this school year is when there is a rematch between district foes in post-season play, the outcome of the rematch can have some surprising results. Just ask the Pampa volleyball team and the Borger boys golf team.
So when the Borger brother and sister duo of Josh and Abbie Madden took to the court Thursday morning to take on Pampa’s Aaron Silva and Holly Gage for the 3A Region I Mixed Doubles title, nothing could be taken for granted, even though the Maddens had beaten the Pampa duo in straight sets for the District 1-3A title.

Officials investigating death of Fritch infant

Officials are currently investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a three-month-old in Fritch.
The Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office was contacted this morning for information on the investigation of what caused the death.
Deputies from the office responded to a call at a home in the Sanford Estates housing development on Tuesday night around 8:20 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the infant had died.
According to reports from Department of Public Safety spokesman Gabriel Medrano, preliminary autopsy results determine the child died from asphyxiation.

Sgt. Joseph A. Jett truly received a hero’s welcome Wednesday afternoon from students at West Texas Elementary School in Stinnett. Holding a sign made in his honor is Sgt. Jett’s niece, six-year-old Alyssa Beagle. Sgt. Jett and his wife Liz have a three-year-old daughter Chloe, who holds on to her dad tightly. He has come home after service in Afghanistan.

County court releases latest disposition report

The Hutchinson County Court has released its latest disposition report as of April 20, 2011.
The cases in the report are as follows:
•Skylar Denham – appeal failure to attend school,
final conviction (fine only)
•Amanda Michelle Fought, theft of property >=$20<$500 by check, case dismissed (restitution made)
•Katherine Nanette Landrum, disorderly conduct Class C, order suspending sentence
•Phillip Lee Mitchell, driving while intoxicated, county jail
•Amber Dawn Reeves, driving while intoxicated (2nd), order revoking probation

BISD board member recognized for service

The Borger ISD board of trustees took time to honor a longtime board member who will be stepping off this May.
Gary Schneck was recognized for his service to the board. Schneck, who has served on the board for 15 years, was up for reelection in the upcoming May general election, but chose not to run for another term.
Robert Bradley is seeking another term of office as a BISD school member. Also seeking election to the school board are Scott Mills, Diedre Hood, and Les Sharp. The top two vote-getters will be elected to the board in the May general election.

Bulldog baseball tailgate party set for Saturday in Perryton

Saturday afternoon Borger Bulldog fans are invited to attend a tailgate party that will begin at 11:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m. before the District 1-3A game with the Perryton Rangers in Perryton that begins at 2 p.m.
The Baseball Booster Club will have a big cooker set up in Perryton in the parking lot of Ranger Field.
Bring your own food and the booster club will cook it and bring your lawn chairs.
A win by the Bulldogs clinches them the District 1-3A title outright, so make the short drive and support the Dogs.

Lady Bulldog softball game moved to Friday afternoon

The Borger Lady Bulldogs vs. Perryton Rangerettes District 1-3A softball game has been rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in Perryton.
Win by the Lady Bulldogs clinches the team a district playoff berth. While a win by Perryton could cause a set of play-in games on Saturday in Dumas.

Borger tops leaderboard at regional tournament

Wednesday’s first round of the 3A Region I Golf Tournament got underway in less than ideal conditions at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Lubbock, leaving several players and coaches a little upset with the condition of the course.
Despite the poor conditions, the Borger Bulldogs made the most of the first round by shooting a team score of 319 to put them five strokes ahead of second place Andrews, 324.
Tyler Sosebee shot the high score for Borger on Wednesday, with a 77, to put him tied for sixth place, while Will Paulsell shot a 78 to place him tied for eighth.

Madden duo reach tennis regional finals

After earning a spot in the state tournament in 2010, the brother and sister duo of senior Josh Madden and junior Abbie Madden sat on the verge on another trip to Austin when they took to the tennis court this morning in the 3A Region I Tennis Tournament Mixed-Doubles Final.
The Madden duo, the top seeds in the tournament, were set to have a rematch of the District 1-3A final by facing Aaron Silva and Holly Gage of Pampa.
The Maddens won that district final by scores of 6-2, 6-4.
