After helping to lead the Borger Bulldogs to the District 1-3A title and to the third round of the 3A playoffs, 2011 senior catcher Brandon Garica and senior outfielder Garrett Irwin were named to the Second Team in the Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writer's Association's 3A All-State Teams on Thursday.
Garcia, the District 1-3A MVP, had an impressive 2011 season posting a .511 batting average with 11 homeruns and a .944 slugging percentage.
Playing centerfield, Irwin made the team after posting a .434 batting average with 34 RBIâ€™s, 45 runs scored and 10 stolen bases.
Last week students from American Karate Studios in Guymon, Spearman, Gruver and Borger competed in the AAU Taekwondo National Championships in Austin consisting of thousands of athletes from across the country.
Four-year-old Issac Garcia of Borger won Silver in Fighting and the Bronze in Forms in his division.
PANHANDLE - Deahl Howe passed away peacefully at home at the age of 90 on July 3, 2011.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Panhandle Cemetery with Rev. E. Lynn Howe of Billings, Montana, officiating. Interment is under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle. Visitation will be Friday July 8, 2011, at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m.
WICHITA FALLS - Pennie Denise Jackson, 52, a former resident of Borger, died Sunday, July 3, 2011, in Wichita Falls.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, in Westlawn Memorial Park with Rev. William Scott officiating. Interment will be under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Janet Dale Sutton Lowe, 66 of Ponca City, OK, was born in Hydro, Oklahoma on May 25, 1945 and died on July 3, 2011 in Ponca City, OK.
She was a teacher in Oklahoma and Texas for 25 years, teaching Jr. High and HS Math as well as English. Janet was also a Social Worker in Oklahoma for 15 years.
She is preceded in death by: her husband, Charles Ruell Lowe, her brother, Ronald Sutton and her parents Neil and Thelma Sutton
The Stinnett Police Department is currently investigating a case of identity theft.
Stinnett Chief of Police Marie Farbro stated that she and other officers have collected a video from the Borger Dollar General of a suspect forging his signature for purchased items that were initially bought on May 27, 2011.
He has also committed the same crime in McDonaldâ€™s and Stinnett Allsups, for a combined total of $191.86.
Farbro said that the victim randomly checks his account on the internet, and he realized someone was using his ATM/debit card.
Local veterans are encouraged to come out to the Borger Summer Celebration next Thursday to visit the Mobile Vet Center, which will be making a visit to the event.
The vet center will be on site at Huber Park from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011, during the celebration festivities.
The center is open to all veterans, their families, and the general public. The centerâ€™s visit is being sponsored by the Amarillo Vet Center, located on Olsen Boulevard in Amarillo.

Over the past weekend, the Borger 11&12 year old Little League Girls Softball All-Star team won the district championship in a clean sweep, defeating Childress on Thursday 19-14 and Memphis on Saturday 20-12.
In Saturdayâ€™s Championship game, pitcher Makenzie May had 12 strikeouts in five innings of work with Maegan Stone closing the game by getting a runner out at home.
The team is coached by Steven Willis and Cindy Willis and advanced to Sectionals to be held in Lubbock.
