Raiders run past the Bulldogs 35-7

The 2011 season started a little rough for the Borger Bulldogs on Friday night at Bulldog Stadium. In front of a good crowd, the Randall Raiders racked up 248 yards and scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to build a 21 point lead in their 35-7 win over Borger.
Raiders junior quarterback Colin Bowen had a big night on the ground and the air as he rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns while connecting with Logan Brittian for an 89 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

Dalhart Golden Wolves beat Sanford-Fritch 27-7

The Sanford-Fritch Eagles had their hands full Friday night with the visiting Golden Wolves of Dalhart.
The first quarter was about working through first game jitters. Dalhart didn’t seem to have any problems moving the ball down the field with the help of Dalhart Senior WR Channing Allen. In the first quarter, Allen received a great pass and ran 70 yards for a touchdown.
Colton Valle, Sanford-Fritch’s All State HM running back from last season, blocked the extra point kickand the quarter ended with Dalhart up 6-0.

Lady Plainsmen split matches in NMMI Tourney

ROSWELL, N.M.-On Friday, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen opened their 2011 season by splitting their two matches in the NMMI Tournament.
In their morning match, the Lady Plainsmen fell to WJCAC foes NMMI in three games 25-27, 19-25, 22-25.
In the afternoon, the Lady Plainsmen rebounded to defeat Air Force Prep 25-22, 25-15, 25-19.
Day two of the tournament is taking place on Saturday.

Familiar faces to be a part of the FPC Softball program

Part of Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen softball recruiting class are three freshmen that are familiar faces for softball fans in Hutchinson County.
Borger natives Kylie Boyd and Trayshia Walker, along with Jill Walker of Fritch, are part of the ten newcomers to the Lady Plainsmen, and each one of them is excited about the opportunity they have in being a part of the program.

Randall Raiders coach talks about tonight’s game with the Bulldogs

On Wednesday afternoon, Randall Raider Head Coach Bryan Wood shared a couple of his thoughts on tonight’s game between his team and the Borger Bulldogs.
Wood is entering his third year as the Raiders’ coach, where he led the team to a 9-3 record last year.
On his approach for the Raiders going into tonight, Wood said, “I think every coach has a similar perspective regarding early games. Don’t turn it over, have limited penalties, and win the special teams.”

2010 district champions square off in season opener

Tomorrow night officially kicks off the 2011 football season and one of the best match-ups in the Texas Panhandle will take place at Bulldog Stadium. The Canyon Randall Raiders are visiting town to take on the Bulldogs.
Both teams are coming off impressive 2010 campaigns which saw both claiming district titles and advancing three rounds into the playoffs.
Another similarity the teams share is replacing several seniors. However, both programs have good talent coming up that should allow both teams to contend for district titles again.

Help the Alberts get to D.C.

A local veteran has been invited to receive a special honor in Washington, D.C.
Jimmie L. (Shorty) Albert, a veteran of World War II, has been invited to be a part of the Honor Flight this fall in Washington, D.C.
Albert’s wife Leola and his grandson Jake Heare have plans to go on the trip with him. Heare is interested in going to hear the stories of this historic event. However, the Texas Panhandle Honor Flight Society will only cover the costs of Shorty’s flight.

Fritch City Council gathers for meeting

Fritch City Council gathered for a regularly scheduled meeting at 509 West Broadway on August 23, 2011 at 7 p.m.
After opening comments from Nancy Bruce who asked that Hillside Drive be repaired, three young Fritch citizens, Logan Barter, Zane Mullins, and Caleb McClure, approached the council with the idea of bringing a skate park to Fritch.
The young men said they are planning on applying for grants to help fund the skate park.
Logan stated, “If we get this skate park, we would like to name it Jerry McClure Memorial Skate Park.”

Hackett adds three late signings to 2011-12 roster

Frank Phillips College Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Hackett announced the signing of three more players before the fall semester got underway.
All three players give the Plainsmen depth underneath the basket and are expected to make an immediate impact in the upcoming season.
The three new players are 6’8 center Demetris Lafontant of Kissimmee, Fla.; 6’7 forward Patrick Elledge of Pearland; and 6’5 forward Kris Harris of Clinton, Md.

Louise Sanders

Louise Sanders, 77, of Stinnett, passed away, Sunday, August 21, 2011.
Mayme Louise (Yake) Sanders was born Wednesday, April 25, 1934 in Borger, TX to Henry and Mary Rosaltha (Laster) Yake. She married Jerry Sanders on January 4, 1963 in Stinnett, TX. She was a Food Service Director for PSPCISD.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill Yake and Bud Yake; and a brother-in-law, Tommy Lewis.
