Each winter from December through early March, Texas Parks and Wildlifeâ€™s Inland Fisheries Division, in cooperation with participating cities and agencies, stocks more than 260,000 catchable-size rainbow trout in more than 100 locations across Texas. This trout stocking program is designed to provide increased wintertime fishing opportunities for Texasâ€™ more than 2.3 million anglers. As a part of this program, The Meredith Stilling Basin is scheduled to receive 1,000 rainbow trout during the week of December 5 and an additional 1,000 during the week of January 30.
Just two years ago, Borger Wrestling Head Coach Antonio Murga was enjoying the luxury of having an experienced squad that could match up well against any team in the region and had six wrestlers qualify for the state tournament.
However, over the last two years those state wrestlers have moved on, and now Murga finds himself leading a young group of wrestlers for the 2011-12 season.
Franklin Jordan, 91, of Borger, passed away, Wednesday, November 23, 2011.
Franklin Sammuel Jordan was born Sunday, December 14, 1919 in Cushing, OK to John and Katie (Higgins) Jordan. He was a retired warehouse purchaser for Phillips Petroleum with forty years of dedicated service. He was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for sixty-five years. Mr. Jordan served his country as a member of the United States Army in WWII.
The Community Thanksgiving service will be held the Sunday after Thanksgiving, November 27, 6 pm, at Trinity Church of the Nazarene. Johnny Robertson, pastor of First United Methodist Church, will be the speaker. There will be special music by the Community Pastor Choir. A special offering for High Plains Helping Hands and Living Water will be taken. Please join us.
AARP will be holding a driver safety classroom course designed for drivers age 50 and older at the Opportunities Center, 930 Illinois, on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011.
The course will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch.

No exams will be given. AARP members with their card will be admitted for $12, and non-members will be admitted for $14.
Veterans and spouses are free with proof of service (DD214, ID card, VFW, DAV, AL, etc.)
The Rotary Club held a bicycle giveaway for Gateway and Crockett Elementaries Tuesday morning for students who have had perfect attendance over the past six weeks. Winners were (front): Kaitlyn Swender, first grade; Wesley Carlock, second grade; Sherie Fitzgerald, third grade; and Brandon Saucedo-Longoria, fourth grade.
PERRYTON - Betty Lou Sanders, 75, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2011, at First Baptist Church â€“ Holly Chapel with Rev. Richard Laverty officiating.
Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.
Mrs. Sanders was born Jan. 20, 1936, in Longview, and has lived in the area since 1956, moving from Jacksboro. She married Bill Sanders in October of 1982 in Perryton.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and worked for Roberson Wifeline.
PAMPA - Bobby Gene Blakeney, 80, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Mr. Zeb Sailors, Church of Christ Minister, officiating.
Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors courtesy of the U.S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Blakeney was born August 27, 1931 in Wichita Falls. He was raised in Spring Creek. He graduated from Borger High School.
Funeral services for Alan Eric Catron, 46, will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23 at Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bill Sizemore, Pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Alan was born in Borger to Marvin and Greta Catron and he was a lifetime resident of Borger. He was a Maintenance Technician with R and M Energy and was a member of the NRA. He loved hunting, golfing and especially his dogs.
James Earl Jones, 66, of Borger, died Saturday Nov. 19, 2011, in Borger.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at United Methodist Church in Paducah, Texas with Bobby Evans, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors and McBee Family Funeral Home.
James was born May 17, 1945 at Paris, Texas, to James and Lenora Ainsworth Jones. He worked as a Janitor for ABC Studio in California. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother J. C. Jones.
