The âBig Latch Onâ will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the Huber Park Community Building.
Local nursing mothers will gather to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week and try to break the record for the most women breastfeeding at the same time.
Groups of nursing mothers will come together at registered venues around the country (or the world) to nurse their babies at a set time.
All the mamas and babies latched on for one minute at the set time will be counted by the witnesses.
The numbers are added up and they will determine how close they come to the world record.

Joycelyn (Cook) Glenn, 67, died at her home in Bixby, Okla.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Moore Funeral Home, 9350 East 51st, Tulsa, Okla. (918) 663-2233.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Okla.
Joycelyn was originally from Phillips and a member of the Class of 1962.
Kenneth Paul McDonald Sr., 75, of Borger, died Monday Aug. 1, 2011, in Borger.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Dale Peirce, Pastor, and Rev. Jimmy Gillmore of Riverview Baptist officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
According to recent weather updates, the month of July was the hottest month for Hutchinson County by far.
Local longtime residents would agree with that statement.
Charles Gillingham of Borger stated, âItâs the hottest itâs been since Iâve been here. I remember we got nine inches of rain one year, and we may not get there this time around.â He continued, âItâs a âremember whenâ type of year that people can tell their grandchildren about.â
A fire was kindled five miles east of Stinnett around 2 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2011.
Nine fire departments and Amarillo aircrafts responded to the fire at Turkey Track Ranch. Fire fighters were on the scene until around midnight that night.
Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards states the fire damaged over 3,000 acres of land.
Fire departments did save two structures in the fireâs path. There were no injuries.
The American Red Cross brought food and water to the firefighters on the scene. The cause of the wildfire is still under investigation.
Borger ISD and Sanford-Fritch ISD have received their annual accountability ratings from the Texas Education Agency.
Overall, both districts were rated academically acceptable. One of the base indicators for this rating pertains to the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) tests taken by students in the district.
The PSPCISD and Spring Creek ISD school districts have received their ratings from the Texas Education Agency.
PSPCISD received an overall rating of recognized from the TEA. This is where students meet 80 percent standard for each subject on the TAKS tests.
West Texas High School received an academically acceptable rating. West Texas Middle School was recognized. West Texas Elementary was rated as Exemplary.
PSPCISD superintendent Bill Wiggins said he was very pleased with the ratings and believes the staff is doing a great job.
Gertrude Hodges passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 in Fort Worth at the age of 93.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011, at the First Southern Baptist Church in Fritch, Texas with interment following at Westlawn Memorial in Borger, Texas. She will lie in state Wednesday August 3 at Minton Chatwell Funeral Home in Fritch. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
Otis âO.T.â âHobbyâ Thomas Kirksey was born into this life on April 21, 1930, in Archer County, Texas to Ben and Della Kirksey. He closed his eyes here on earth July 30, 2011 and opened them in heaven.
