Sanford-Fritch gets district sweep over Childress

On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles swept the Lady Cats from Childress in three straight games in District 1-2A action.
In the first game, Sanford-Fritch struggled with serving and let Childress stay in the game with many lead changes. The Lady Cats had some great opportunities to win but Sanford-Fritch came together to finish strong. 25-22
Game two was Sanford-Fritch’s game to take charge. Great serving from senior Mariah Cumings and hard hits from Jacy Judd helped the Lady Eagles move past Childress for the win. 25-9

Women’s Self-Defense Seminar being offered on Saturday

On Saturday, October 15th, Freestyle School of Karate & MMA will be holding a Women’s Self-Defense Seminar from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
On why the school is holding the self-defense seminar, Master Donald Stang of Freestyle School of Karate & MMA said, “I believe this is much needed for our ladies in this community, due to what has happen recently and for their future protection. We offer 28 years of experience in the Martial Arts and great understanding in what it takes to teach someone to defend themselves.”

BISD has busy homecoming schedule

October 12, 2011

Borger ISD will be having a busy homecoming schedule over the next couple of days.
The homecoming parade will be held starting at around 6-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13. The parade route will line up at 5 p.m. in the parking lot of Cornerstone Christian Church, 10th and Main, and proceed south on Main Street, west on Third Street, and south on McGee towards BHS.

Lucile Evelyn Leigh, 96, of Borger, died Sunday, October 9, 2011.
A rosary will be held at Minton Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael Colwell officiating. Arrangements are by Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Ordinance addresses pet numbers

As plans are being made to amend the animal control ordinance for the City of Borger, one of the issues addressed in the ordinance is the number of pets that can be owned by an individual at any one time.
Except as authorized, a person commits an offense if he or she owns or harbors on the premises of a single residence more than four pets or companion animals in any combination.

Get a good scare at the Johnson Park Insane Asylum

Instead of making a trip to Amarillo for a good scare, check out the Johnson Park Insane Asylum.
The Johnson Park Youth Center, along with support from the Borger City Council, made the project possible. Residents can visit the haunted house for an inexpensive price between October 17 and October 29, 2011.
Johnson Park Insane Asylum will be open Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays from 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. and from 7 p.m. till midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Admission will be $5. Children under 11 years old should be accompanied by an adult.

FPC Nurse Club holding “Christmas in October” drive

Christmas in October is here again!
Every year, the Frank Phillips Nurse Club hosts a “Christmas in October Drive,” helping surrounding nursing home residents.
This particular drive collects items that will help make life for nursing home residents a little simpler. These items include lotions, puzzle books, stationery, razors, socks, deodorant, lap blankets, soap, pens, pencils, etc.

Pampa defeats Borger on Saturday

The Borger Lady Bulldogs were missing their top outside hitter and had to face the best team in District 1-3A in the No. 14 Pampa Lady Harvesters. Borger made the Lady Harvesters work but were eventually swept (20-25, 22-25, 20-25) Saturday in Borger.
Interim head coach Ken Barbour said he was pleased with how the team competed.
“I was very proud of how the girls responded and competed,” Barbour said. “We just wanted to play well. I’m disappointed that we lost but I’m pleased with the effort they gave.”

LUBBOCK - Edith Luellen Noble, 96, formerly of Skellytown, died Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Lubbock.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, Texas, with Reverend Sam Line of Groom Church of Christ officiating. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

FRITCH - Glenda Roberts Stone, 52, died Friday, October 7, 2011 at her home in Fritch.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Richard Kasko, of Fritch Church of Christ, and her brother Todd Moss of Norman, Okla., officiating. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
