Veteran donates painting to RFL raffle

A former Marine is donating an original painting to the Relay For Life cause.
Nester Hernandez, a former Marine Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp, has donated an original painting, “Walk by Faith,” to be raffled off to benefit Relay For Life of Hutchinson County.

Hereford Whitefaces gets past the Borger Bulldogs, 11-2

In the first week of the season, the areas of concern for the Borger Bulldogs were errors and giving up too many walks. On Wednesday evening the Bulldogs did a better job in both areas, but the team struggled offensively in their 11-2 loss to the Hereford Whitefaces out at Huber Park.
The Whiteface pitching staff did a good job working the plate limiting the Bulldogs to three hits while striking out 10 batters in the game.
In the top of the second inning, the Whitefaces took a 0-5 lead on a RBI single, a three RBI triple, and a passed ball at home plate.

Eagles expect to see success on the baseball diamond in 2012

The Sanford-Fritch Eagles baseball team enters 2012 expecting to have a good season and to compete for a playoff berth in District 1-2A.
In 2011, the Eagles faced several difficult issues on and off the baseball field which took its toll in the win-loss column.
Since last season, the Eagles baseball program is experiencing a fresh start under the leadership of new head coach Adam Watson.
Watson has the luxury of seven lettermen returning from last season, led by Tate Murray, Caleb Manzella, Christian Ward, and Jarred Goodwin.

Deborah Monk

Deborah Monk, 59, of Weatherford, TX, passed away, Monday, February 27, 2012.
Deborah Cloud Monk was born October 5, 1952 in Mansfield, LA to Barnett Cloud Sr. and Willie Lee (Johnson) Lollis. She married Paul Monk on May 1, 1972 in Dallas, OK. Deborah was a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Willie Lee Lollis; her step-mother, Louella Cloud; her brother, Barnett Cloud Jr.; her daughter, Rachael Sahr; and infant granddaughter.

Thomas Randall “Randy” Townsend

Thomas Randall “Randy” Townsend, 57, of Borger died Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Randy was born January 24, 1955 in Borger to William Randell Townsend and Tommie (Pierce) Townsend. He was a lifetime Borger, Pampa resident, and member of Central Baptist Church in Pampa.
Survivors include his two sisters; Jeanne Eakin and husband Russell, Karla Davis and husband Chris, both of Pampa, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

“Great Texas Warrant Round Up” underway

The “Great Texas Warrant Round Up” is underway.
All through Texas, the law enforcement participates in this campaign called once a year through municipal courts.
Notifications were sent to any persons with warrants in February. Lists were printed in February 11 and 12, 2012 weekend edition of the Borger News-Herald.
Statistics have to be compiled and sent to Austin to make a report to see how successful the roundup is in the long run.

Activity at LMNRA benefiting local economy

Activity at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area and Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument is having a positive impact on the local economy.
A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 888,000 visitors in 2010 spent $36.6 million in LMNRA and Alibates and communities near the park. That spending supported 500 jobs in the local area.
Park Superintendent Cindy Ott-Jones said the people and business owners in communities near national parks have always known their economic value.

Amy Fernandez sentenced to 12 months in prison

February 29, 2012

Amy Fernandez will be facing time in prison.
In U.S. Federal Court on Wednesday afternoon, she received a sentence of 12 months in prison with three years of supervised release to follow. The sentence was issued by Judge Mary Lou Robinson.

Sybil Ross

Sybil Ross, 98, of Amarillo, passed away, Monday, February 27, 2012.
Sybil Irene (Weldon) Ross was born March 23, 1913 in Hollis, OK to Andrew and Nancy (Casey) Weldon. She married R.E. Ross on December 24, 1929 in Magnum, OK. She was a homemaker, crossing guard for BISD and custodian for Co-Poly.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, R.E. Ross in 1981; two sons, R.E. Ross Jr. in 1944 and Johnny Lee Ross in 2007; five brothers and three sisters.

Boomtown Theater presenting one-act plays March 1-3

The Boomtown Theater presents its fifth début and duet starting this Thursday.
There are two different directors and two different one-act plays that will be presented. The theater will be serving a dinner before the two productions.
First in line is “He Said and She Said” by Alice Gerstenberg and directed by Tara Richelle Hopkins, five-year actor for the Boomtown Theater and first time director.
