West Texas High Comanches continue their tough district gauntlet hosting Sunray

On Friday night. the West Texas High Comanches will play in their final home game for the 2011 season when they host the undefeated Sunray Bobcats in a key District 1-1A battle.
Last Friday evening, the Comanches suffered just their second loss of the season when they fell 48-14 to the Canadian Wildcats.
The Comanches’ offense continued to move the ball on the ground, racking up over 230 rushing yards. But, the Comanches’ defense just could not find an answer on how to slow down the Wildcats’ spread attack, which racked up 533 yards of total offense and built up a big lead by halftime.

NMMI Lady Broncos top the FPC Lady Plainsmen in three

There are times in sports, when the scoreboard doesn’t really tell the whole story of how close or not so close a game truly was.
Wednesday evening in the BCAC, the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) Lady Broncos defeated the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen in straight sets 19-25, 27-29, 22-25 in WJCAC play.
The win was a clean sweep for NMMI, however each game in the match featured great plays from both teams, leading fans to understand why the two clubs had split their previous two meetings this season.

Seliger to hold town hall meeting in Borger

State Senator Kel Seliger is coming to Borger for a town hall meeting next week.
The meeting will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
Senator Seliger has traveled throughout the Panhandle, South Plains, and Permian Basin throughout the last two months to discuss the activities of the 82nd Legislative Session with his constituents.
“The town hall meetings are a great way to ensure there is continuing dialogue from the people who live in my district,” he said. “I hold them regularly and use the information exchanged.”

Redd receives positive review from EDC Board

On Tuesday afternoon, the Borger Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors performed their annual review for Borger EDC CEO Dan Redd during the board’s October meeting.
The EDC Board gave Redd a positive report, which extended his contract for another year. Redd has served as the EDC CEO for five years and will enter his sixth.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the EDC Board approved entering a contract with Leading EDG to assist entrepreneurs and small businesses in the Borger area.

FPC hosting “Meet the Plainsmen” on Saturday afternoon

On Saturday, October 22nd, Frank Phillips College will host “Meet the Plainsmen” for the men’s basketball team starting at 4:30 p.m. at the BCAC.
The men’s basketball team will be there to meet and talk with Plainsmen fans and take part in a inter-squad scrimmage.
Entering the season, the Plainsmen have 15 players on their active roster featuring a good blend of athletic ability and decent size.
The Plainsmen will also visit Gateway Elementary on Friday morning to eat lunch and hang out with students along with handing out pencils and flyers for “Meet the Plainsmen.”

Pampa defeats Borger in four games

PAMPA-On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs came out strong taking game one in their match against the #14 Pampa Lady Harvesters.
But an upset was not in the cards for the Lady Bulldogs as the Lady Harvesters got the breaks down the stretch to get the win in four games 25-21,17-25, 19-25, 15-25 to stay undefeated in District 1-3A play.
The Lady Bulldogs drop to 1-6 in district play and have two matches left to try secure one of the three district’s playoff spots.

Borger High School golf teams perform well in weekend tournaments

Over the weekend, the Borger High School Boys and Girls Golf teams were busy hitting the links in tournament play in Dumas and here in Borger.
The Borger girls hosted a one round triangular tournament at the Phillips Course, drawing1 1 schools from around the Texas Panhandle.
The Borger “Red” team was paired with Hereford and Gruver, where the Lady Bulldogs finished with the top score of the group shooting a 360. Hereford shot a 371 followed by Gruver with a 398.

New hospital set to open next week

The new Golden Plains Community Hospital is set to open next week!
Dennis Jack, CEO of Golden Plains Community Hospital, spoke to the Borger Rotary Club recently about the progress of the new facility. The moving of items from the old facility to the new facility will be taking place this week, with most of the moving taking place this Thursday and Friday.
On Saturday, Oct. 22, a public open house will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tours will be taking place throughout the hospital during those hours.

FPC accepts $25,000 from United Supermarkets Foundation

October 18, 2011

On Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents approved accepting a $25,000 donation from the United Supermarkets Foundation which was presented to the college back on September 30th.
The gift was the second part of $50,000 United Supermarkets awarded FPC to be used towards the renovation of the Biology Lab that was complete this summer.
United Supermarkets presented its first installment of the donation back in October of 2010.

Various fall, Halloween festivities taking place throughout county

October is full of fun fall events and exciting Halloween festivities throughout the county.
A few family events that will be out in the community for citizens to enjoy include the following:
The Spring Creek School Halloween Carnival is to be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011. The cafeteria will serve food from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the games and booths will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come in costume if you like!
