The Hutchinson County Local Emergency Planning Committee will meet on January 12, 2012 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Frank Phillips College cafeteria.
There will be a financial report given by Carie Richards and and other reports such as Public Education Committee-Jerry Langwell,. Compliance Committee-Paton Willis, Public Warning Systems Committee-Danny Richards, and raining/Drill Committee-Bob Watson.
The committee will also discuss Unfinished Business and new business items.
BHS counselors & Frank Phillips College will be hosting Financial Aid Night on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, 6:00-8:00 P.M. IN THE BHS Media Center. Parents of juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend. Information regarding scholarships, financial aid, and college admission processes will be some of the many topics addressed.
Funeral mass for Steven Daniel Willis, 58, will be Friday at St. Johnâ€™s Catholic Church with Msgr. Michael Colwell officiating. Rosary will be Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Johnâ€™s Catholic Church. Interment will follow mass at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Mike Harber or Borger passed away January 10, 2012 in Amarillo, Texas.
Mike was born to Carl B. Harber and Marcel Fahle Harber, February 2, 1953 in Borger, Texas. He married Kathie Wells on December 23, 1981.
He graduated from Borger High School, attended Frank Phillips College and Wayland Baptist University. He graduated from Amarillo Police Academy and went to work for the Borger Police Department. Mike also worked for the Hutchinson County Sheriffâ€™s Department. He was working for the City of Borger Code Enforcement Department at the time of his death.
On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles came out slow, but finished victorious in a big win.
Sanford-Fritch continues to make impressive showings.
The Lady Eagles started on a slow note, requiring Coach Hale to call a timeout after River Road 4-0 run.
With 5:27 on the clock, that small talk must have been good. as Lady Eagles never looked back and moved ahead to a halftime score 22-17.
Sanford-Fritch came out from halftime and took total control. Big rebounding by senior Summer Tubbs and sophomore Mikala Setliff helped control both ends of the court.
On Tuesday evening, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen concluded their non-conference schedule with a 79-76 win over Lamar Community College at the BCAC.
Ronald Scott led the Plainsmen by scoring 14, followed by Taquan McDew and Greg Nelson each having 10 points.
The win improves the Plainsmen record to 8-8 overall and the team will start WJCAC play next Monday, January 16th hosting Odessa College at 7:30 p.m.
PAMPA-There are times in sports when one miscue seems to start an avalanche that can be nearly impossible to overcome for a team.
Unfortunately, that is the scenario the Borger Lady Bulldogs found themselves in their District 1-3A opener loss to the Pampa Lady Harvester, 73-25.
Good three point shooting and 11 first period turnovers by the Lady Bulldogs opened the door for Pampa to use a 12-0 run to build a 7-27 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
The Sanford-Fritch Eagles played Wheeler, Tuesday night and lost a close thriller in OT.
It took the first two quarters to get the Eagles rolling, as too many turnovers and missed shots plagued the Eagles. This kept them on the short end trailing after the first quarter, 9-15.
Fast paced Wheeler were a tough matchup to manage and Wheeler continued in the lead 13-27.
However, the Eagles came soaring in the last two quarters.
On Tuesday evening, the Bushland Falcons held off a fourth period rally by the Borger Bulldogs to get the 63-57 win in the final non-district contest for both teams at Bushland.
A sluggish second period by the Bulldogs led to Bushland taking an eight point, 34-26, lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs bounced back in the second half and pull back to within one point, 57-58, with under a minute to go in the game.
However, the Falcons found a way to hang on and send the Bulldogs to 9-11 for the season. while Bushland improves to 10-8.
LINN Energy is preparing to celebrate the grand opening of its new regional office in Borger.
The company will be hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the office. LINN Energy will also be presenting Dr. Jud Hicks, President of Frank Phillips College, with its donation to fund equipment for the P&E and I&E technology program. The new facility is located at 1201 Fairlanes Boulevard, and the public is invited to attend.
