PANHANDLE - Joe Cassidy of Panhandle, 81, died Monday, May 23, 2011, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Lewis Holland, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
The Relay For Life of Hutchinson County aims to celebrate the lives of residents who have survived cancer, while aiming to find a cure for the disease.
Dollars raised through the local RFL event help support the American Cancer Societyâ€™s mission of eliminating cancer by helping people stay well and get well, finding cures, and fighting back.
During his report to the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents last Monday, FPC President Dr. Jud Hicks told the board that the college is moving forward in adding a FFA program to the Borger campus.
Dr. Hicks told the board that a couple of faculty members have approached him with interest in starting a collegiate program on campus, believing it would be an asset to the resources already available at the college.
FPC facility member Amanda Jewkes will head up the new FFA program with assistance by Dustin Warren and Dr. Rodney Purswell.
Despite the recent drop in levels at Lake Meredith, people are still getting out and having some fun! Lake Meredith will be increasing its summer hours starting Saturday May 28, 2011 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for all three days (May 28-30) of the Memorial Day weekend, and will then revert to the regular summer schedule of being open six days a week Monday-Saturday.

Frank Phillips College Volleyball Coach Ashley Dyer added to the Lady Plainsman roster with the recent signing of Kayla Silva of Edinburg, Texas.
Ms. Silva is a 5' 8" Outside Hitter who played varsity volleyball for four years at Economedes High School, earning team MVP honors three of those years. She earned 1st Team All-District 31-5A for three years, and 2nd Team All-Valley honors two years. As a senior she won the E.H.S. Heisman Award as the school's outstanding athlete.
The City of Borger has entered into an agreement with CVS Caremark Corporation as it prepares to begin construction on a new pharmacy within the community.
The agreement, approved by the Borger City Council during a short special session Monday, pertains to access, a retaining wall, and a construction easement.
Under the terms of the agreement, CVS Caremark requested these things along the east and south sides of the property where the pharmacy will be built. The pharmacy will be located on Lots 4-11, Block 24, Unit 4, Thompson Addition (230 North Cedar).
Borger High School has named its top two graduates for the Class of 2011.
Madison Argo is the valedictorian with a GPA of 107.175 (4.0) and Joshua Madden is the salutatorian with a GPA of 106.471 (4.0).
While in high school, Argo was on the Varsity Track Team, served as Art Club President, was a member and officer of the National Honor Society, and served as FCA President. She also played club volleyball, varsity volleyball, and varsity basketball, and was named to the Golden Spread All Star Volleyball Team.
Summer time fun at Lake Meredith is about to begin and the upcoming Memorial Day is a good time to start!
Although Lake Meredith National Recreation area it is getting smaller, there is still plenty of things for visitors to do.
Visitors to the lake can enjoy boating, swimming, fishing, camping, picnicking, and a host of other outdoor activities.
For people who intend on fishing, it is reported that walleye are biting well, as are crappie and sand bass.
