Sondra “Sandy” Arnold

Funeral services for Sondra “Sandy” Arnold, 71, of Montalba, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Bailey & Foster Chapel with Clay Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Church Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.
Mrs. Arnold passed away Friday, Dec. 16, at her residence. She was born April 17, 1940, in Henrietta, TX, to J.T. Murphy and Dorothy “Dot” Carr Murphy. She worked for TDCJ as a switch operator and was also a hairdresser.

Borger City Council to meet Tuesday

December 19, 2011

The Borger City Council will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
Action will be taken on the final reading of Ordinance O-005-11, amending the City of Borger Code of Ordinance, Article 4.02, Alcoholic Beverages.
The council will also conduct a public hearing on a request from Jeff Whittington to rezone a 1.5 acre tract of land located in the SE/4 of Section 18, Block “Y” M&C Survey, from Single Family (IF-2) zoning district to General Residence (GR) zoning district, to be known as 100 Denton.

Auditions for Boomtown Theater

The Boomtown Theater is looking for more actors preferably over the age of 16. Rehearsals are flexible and no experience is needed.
This coming production will be a debut and duet.
Both directors will hold auditions on January 2, 2012.

BISD board approves policy update

December 19, 2011

The Borger ISD board approved a policy update during its regular meeting Thursday evening.
One of the policies, known as FO (Local), pertains to student discipline. Corporal punishment will not be used when a parent has submitted a signed statement to the principal prohibiting the use of corporal punishment. The parent can reinstate corporal punishment by submitting another signed statement at any time.

PSPCISD board takes care of business

The Plemons-Stinnett-Phillips CISD board of trustees met Thursday night in Stinnett.
The board approved the independent financial audit for the fiscal year beginning Sept. 1, 2010, and ending August 31, 2011.
Action was also taken to establish an active and continuing records management program as required by the Texas State Library and Archives commission and designate Bill Wiggins, superintendent of Schools, as the Records Management Officer.

FPC Softball team making a difference in the community

The Frank Phillips College softball team recently braved the cold weather to help a great cause. Earlier this month, the team spent the afternoon in front of the United Supermarket in Borger ringing bells for the Salvation Army’s Christmas Charity.
“The “miracle” of Christmas is repeated over and over again through the joy of caring and sharing. The traditional red kettle is an integral part of the Christmas scene, with millions of dollars donated each year to aid needy families, seniors, and the homeless, in keeping with the spirit of the season.

Almo “A.L.” Taylor

Almo “A.L.” Taylor, 75, of Fritch passed away, Thursday, December 15, 2011.
Almo Lee Taylor was born Monday, December 7, 1936 in Littlefield, TX to Alfred and Hulda (Wheske) Taylor. He was a retired operator at Phillips Petroleum. Mr. Taylor graduated from Littlefield High School in 1956. He married Laura Thompson on November 24, 1972 in Fritch, TX. He was a Baptist.
He is preceded in death by his wife Laura; son, Thomas Wayne Taylor and his parents.

Aaron Fernandez enters guilty plea

December 17, 2011

A second member of the Fernandez has entered a guilty plea.
Aaron Fernandez, 26, pleaded guilty to one county of possession with intent to distribute 110 pounds or more of marijuana, according to records of the court. He will face a maximum of 20 years behind bars.

Jason Carter named Borger Head Volleyball Coach

December 17, 2011

On Thursday evening, an announcement was made during the Borger ISD School Board meeting that Jason Carter has been named as the Borger Lady Bulldogs Head Volleyball Coach.
Carter has spent several years coaching and teaching in the Borger school district, including serving as an assistant volleyball coach under Cara Adams and Michael Littlejohn.

The Lady Bulldogs lost in three games Tuesday night to Dalhart. See sports section for full results.
The Lady Eagle volleyball team will head to River Road for a district matchup with the Lady...
The Lady Comanches will be back in action Tuesday night against Miami at West Texas High School....
