#2 South Plains College rolls past Frank Phillips 101-78

On Monday evening, the #2 South Plains College Texans got off to a fast start in their 101-78 win over the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen in WJCAC action at the BCAC.
The Texans entered Monday with a perfect 17-0 record and proved to be team that knows how to capitalize on their opponent’s turnovers and have the ability to shoot a high percentage from the floor.
The Plainsmen got off to solid start with Ronald Scott scoring five straight points, along with Akeem Johnson and Mike Evans putting points on the scoreboard to play to a 9-10 score by the 15:55 mark of the first half.

Lady Texans top Lady Plainsmen in WJCAC action, 71-54

On Monday evening, nearly perfect free throw shooting and controlling the boards on both ends of the floor helped the South Plains College Lady Texans defeat the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen 71-54 at the BCAC.
The Lady Texans out rebounded the Lady Plainsmen 48-24, giving South Plains the opportunities for several second change scoring opportunities and limiting Frank Phillips shot attempts on the other end of the floor.
At the free throw line, the Lady Texans nailed 24 of 28 attempts compared to Frank Phillips going 5 of 14 in the game.

Local man electrocuted near refinery

Anthony Manzella, 19 years of age, Fritch was electrocuted while working on a privately owned power head power line line near ConocoPhillips Refinery on Monday around 10 a.m.
Manzella was standing in a cherry picker bucket on a service truck when he was electrocuted.
He did not fall out of the bucket. Crew members working with Manzella called 911.
The man was a employee for B&G Electric. Chief Deputy James Qualls from the Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office said the Justice of the Peace pronounced him dead at the scene.

February 4th first filing date for FPC Board candidates

February 4th is the first day candidates can file to be a candidate for the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents on the May 12th Borger general election ballot.
This year the FPC Board of Regents will have three six-year at-large terms up for reelection, with the positions currently held by Jay Campbell, Sandra Hilbert, and Dr. Shad Goldston.
Along with the three at-large terms, one four-year unexpired term for the Spring Creek District is up for reelection, a seat that is currently held by Tonya Moore.

James Randall “Randy” Galloway, 61, of Borger, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012.
No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Rotary Club holds perfect attendance bike giveaway

The Borger Rotary Club held its first perfect attendance bike giveaway of the year on Friday in the cafeteria of Gateway and Crockett Elementaries. Winners of the bikes were first grader Riley Sams, second grader Daniel Fitzgerald, third grader Maggie Buttermore, and fourth grader William St. Clair. Over the past six weeks, 68 first graders had perfect attendance, 73 first graders had perfect attendance, 59 third graders had perfect attendance, and 68 fourth graders had perfect attendance.

FPC to host South Plains College in doubleheader tonight

Tonight, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen will look to get into the WJCAC win column against South Plains College (SPC) at the BCAC.
In the women’s game, FPC hopes to snap a seven game losing streak against a SPC team that has struggled this season and currently holds a 3-15 record.
In the men’s game, the Plainsmen will take on their second top 10 team in a week, as SPC enters tonight with a #2 ranking and a 17-0 record.
The women’s game will tip off at 5:45 p.m. followed by the men at around 7:30 p.m.

McKinney commits to Henderson State

On Sunday morning, Borger High School senior Miles McKinney verbally committed to play collegiate football for the Henderson State University Reddies.
McKinney was a three year letterman for the Borger Bulldogs, where he was a First Team District 1-3A selection at linebacker for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
In the 2011 season, McKinney was a part of 159 tackles, 87 solo tackles, and played a key role in a Bulldog defense that allowed just 905 rushing yards.
McKinney also played tight end for the Bulldogs.

Lady Bulldogs soccer recap from Wichita Falls

Over the weekend, the Borger Lady Bulldog soccer team took part in the United Invitational Tournament in Wichita Falls, competing against some of the better soccer teams in the state.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the tournament on Friday, losing to Wichita Falls High School 4-0 and Kennedale 5-0.
On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs came away with a big win over Wichita Falls Hirshi 6-1, but finished the tournament with a 4-0 loss against Wichita Falls Rider.

FPC’s Rivera joins Wayland Baptist volleyball team

Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen sophomore setter Grecia Rivera has signed on to join the Wayland Baptist University Lady Pioneers volleyball team.
The Chihuahua, Mexico native joined the Lady Plainsmen before the 2011 season and established herself as one of the best setters in the country in the JUCO ranks, earning WJCAC All-Conference honors.
