Margaret Shores, 94, of Fritch, passed away, Thursday, March 22, 2012.
Margaret Ann (Allen) Shores was born Saturday, February 2, 1918 in Mena, AR to William and Nellie (Perry) Allen. She married C.K. Shores on September 15, 1940 in Clovis, NM. She was a homemaker and member of First United Methodist Church in Fritch, TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C.K. Shores in 1997; her brother, Kenneth Allen and her sister, Clio Smith.
The City of Borger is offering another year of its Park Recreation Program for 2012.
Borgerâ€™s Park Recreation Program is free to children in first through seventh grade. The goal of the program is to insure â€śeach child receives the same attention, rewards, and fun equally, regardless of financial status.â€ť
Park Recreation Program offers free of charge meals and snacks funded by a grant from Borger ISD.
This yearâ€™s program will kick off on June 4, 2012 and will stop July 27, 2012. Services will start at 8 a.m until 3:30, Monday through Friday.
A one-way street in the northern section of Borger is going back to two-way status.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council approved the introduction of an ordinance amending traffic schedules pertaining to one-way streets and alleys. The ordinance will remove West Street as a one-way street.
Ted Dodd, Director of Public Works for the City of Borger, said that in 1997, West Street was made a one-way street from Sterling to Harrington in order to prevent buses and cars from conflicting when dropping off and picking up school children at Gateway Elementary.
PAMPA-Despite the good start to the 2012 season by the Borger Lady Bulldogs, the Pampa Lady Harvesters proved they are not going to give up being the top team in District 1-3A without a fight.
After Borger took the 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Lady Harvesters responded by scoring at least two runs each inning to pull away for the 13-3 win in the District 1-3A opener for both teams on Friday afternoon.
The loss dropped the Lady Bulldogs to 14-8 overall, 0-1 in district play, while Pampa improved to 12-7 overall, 1-0 in district.
ODESSA-On Friday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen (8-20) and the Odessa College Lady Wranglers combined for 57 runs in their WJCAC doubleheader in Odessa.
The Lady Plainsmen came away as the 18-15 winner in a crazy nine inning contest in game one, while the Lady Wranglers took came two, 14-10.
In game one, the Lady Plainsmen put themselves in a hole early by trailing 0-6 after the second inning. But the Lady Plainsmen did a good job chipping away at the lead until they were able to tie the game after the fifth inning, 6-6.
EL Reno, Okla.-On Friday, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen (8-16) split their doubleheader with Redlands Community College 2-0 and 5-6 in Oklahoma.
In game one, Plainsmen pitcher Sam Martin nearly had a no-hitter by giving up just one hit in seven innings of work.
Andrew Landin had a two RBI hit in the first inning to account for all the runs in the game.
In game two, the Plainsmen built a 4-0 lead by the third inning. But Redlands rallied late by scoring five runs in the final three innings to lead them to the one run win.
Gloria â€śJaniceâ€ť Newman, 70, of Borger, died Thursday, March 22, 2012, in Amarillo.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March, 24, 2012 at the Church of Christ at Borger with Mr. Denny Snead, Pastor officiating, and Pastor Terry Stegall of Newlife church in Dalhart assisting. Interment will follow in the Garden of Hope at Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
LIBERAL, KS â€“ Roxanne Redman, 66, Liberal, KS, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, KS.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Miller Chapel with Rev. Rex Petty presiding. Interment will be in the Liberal Cemetery.

The Crimestoppers and Borger Police Department are seeking help in solving a burglary that occurred this past Monday.
On the morning of March 19, 2012, PD officers responded to a residential burglary in the 1200 block of University Place, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD.
It appeared as though the burglary took place just shortly before officers arrived on scene. During the burglary, the suspect(s) took a pink and tan Gucci purse and wallet valued at $2,000.
