STINNETT - Alvin R. “Lightning” McBroom, 77, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, in Stinnett.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stinnett Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Gillmore, Pastor of Riverview Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Sharon Yvette Smith Tidwell, 69, was born in Hollis, OK, on April 7, 1942, and began her journey to heaven on Monday, June 27, 2011.
She has joined her loving husband, Jerry Tidwell of 52 years in Heaven to Rest In Peace.
Sharon was a generous & caring person who had a special place for everyone in her heart. She will be greatly missed & will remain in our hearts forever.
The recent signage of an agreement between the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority and Mesa Water will have a positive effect on the Borger area.
The signing of the water rights between the two entities took place on June 23 at the Plainview Country Club/Civic Center in Plainview.
Pickens and Mesa Water, Inc. sold the water rights beneath 211,000 acres for $103 million to CRMWA. The purchase gives CRMWA water rights for over 400,000 acres in the Texas Panhandle, almost all of which is located in Roberts County.
The Hutchinson County Farmer’s Market is set to begin tomorrow morning!
The market will be set up every Friday through the remainder of the summer from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. or sooner if farmers sell out.
The market will be located in the 500 block of Weatherly (one block east of Main Street).
The market is open to all community buyers and sellers. Stands will consist of a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, homemade jams, breads, and assorted fruit juices.
As soon as Elvira Carrales came onto the gymnasium floor at Amarillo High School on Wednesday evening, it was evident that the 10-year-old was ready to live in the moment and get the crowd of around 1,000 people up on their feet.

On Tuesday, 2011 West Texas High School graduate Erin Frost was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association 2010-11 Softball Academic 1A All-State Team.
The Class of 2011 Salutatorian spent the 2011 season as the first baseman for the Lady Comanches.
In the spring, Frost signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Clarendon College.
James Franklin Farrell passed away June 27, 2011, around 7 a.m. in Shreveport, LA, at the home of his daughter Mischa Farrell. “Jim” was a beloved father, husband and friend. Anyone that encountered him could not help but be touched by his cheerful demeanor.
Local fire departments responded to two fires caused by lightning early Tuesday morning.
Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards said that two related fires caused by the lightning storm broke out at 12:45 a.m. The storm traveled in from south of Hutchinson County late Monday night through early Tuesday morning.
The first fire was located on Milner Road and the Fritch Fire Department responded. Five acres were damaged in the fire and it was reported contained at 2 a.m.
The second fire caused by the same storm occurred on Sanford Yake Road.
The Borger Fire Department responded to a house fire on Boyd Tuesday afternoon.
The fire took place at 1218 Boyd, property that is owned by Mr. Howard Wright of Pampa. The call came in around 11:30 a.m.
Upon arriving on scene, firefighters found the fire had started in the garage area of the home. Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards said that due to the garage being full of live ammunition, firefighters evacuated surrounding residents for safety precautions. There were no injuries and the fire was contained at 1:15 p.m. The cause of fire is still under investigation.
Employees at the Evonik Carbon Black Plant in Borger have achieved a significant milestone.
The employees at the plant have worked 1.8 million hours, or 4,015 days, without a lost time accident.
A lost time accident is defined as a work-related injury resulting in at least one day off the job.
According to Jack L. Clem, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Inorganic Materials (Business Line Carbon Black), a dedicated workforce, management commitment, and strong training are the reasons for an accident-free production site over the last three years.
