Traffic stop results in two arrests

A traffic stop by officers from the Borger Police Department resulted in two arrests on Monday.
On Monday, March 5, 2012, a traffic stop was conducted by Borger police officers in the 200 block of West Tenth Street, according to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD.
During the traffic stop, due to actions of the occupants, officers developed probable cause to investigate further into the stop.
Lt. Griffin said that upon further investigation, two suspects were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamines).

Kuykendall receives 45-year sentence

Alan Ray Kuykendall has been sentenced for his wife’s murder.
According to Dumas District Attorney David Green, Alan Ray Kuykendall, 47, entered a plea of guilty to the murder of his wife, Amie Kuykendall on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in the 69th District Court of Moore County.
On January 14, 2012, Kuykendall was arrested and charged with his wife’s murder.

Disc golf tournament being held on Saturday, March 17th

On Saturday, March 17th the Johnson Park Youth Center will be hosting the R&M Vinyard Inc. Disc Golf Tournament.
Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. with the tournament beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The tournament will consist of two rounds of 20 holes, with the second round expected to begin around 2:00 p.m.
The tournament will have three divisions, including an open division ($35), advanced division ($25), and Recreational division ($15.)
Cash payout prizes will be given in all divisions. Robert and Martha Vinyard have donated money toward the cash prizes in the tournament.

Borger Tennis team takes second place in Dumas Tournament

On Thursday, the Borger High School Tennis team came in second place in the Dumas Tournament.
Taking second place in their divisions were Cassandra Fonseca and Lindsey Murley in Girls Doubles and Ariel Sanders in Girls Singles. Rebecca Benz won the consolation round in Girls Singles defeating a player from Amarillo High.
Abbie Madden and Alix Whitworth finished in third place in Mixed Doubles.
Other team members who performed well in the tournament include Daniel Salinas, Sterling Shelton, and Austin Embers.

Murder mystery fundraiser to take place at LMAWM

Who doesn’t love a Murder Mystery Fundraiser?
Lake Meredith Aquatic and Wildlife Museum is preparing for its Third Annual Murder Mystery Fundraiser, set for Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 7-8:30 p.m., under the water tower at the museum in Fritch. Tickets for the event are a $6 donation per person and participants will get their name put into a drawing to win an original work by local artist Rita Sanderson.
Museum director Emily West says the event has been successful for the past two years.

BISD board to evaluate professional staff

The Borger ISD board will be conducting evaluations of professional staff during its upcoming regular meeting.
The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012, in the board room of the Borger ISD Administration Building, 200 East Ninth.
After doing evaluations of professional staff, the board will consider the superintendent’s recommendations regarding the employment of teachers and other non-administrative staff. The board will also act on resignations and review the current list of substitutes.

Borger girls win Dumas Invitational

Earlier this week the Borger High School Girls Golf teams took part in the Dumas Invitational.
The Borger 1 team took first place in the tournament shooting a 377 led by Trinity McCarty’s 84 to lead all golfers. Hali Southall finished in third place overall shooting a 89.
The Borger 2 team finished the tournament sixth place overall led by Jessica Lowery who shot a 99.
The Borger Varsity Golf team is taking part in the Pampa Invitational this weekend

Commissioner candidates share platforms at forum

The candidates for Hutchinson County Commissioner, Precinct Three, shared their platforms during the candidates forum held by the Hutchinson County Republican Women Tuesday evening.
Nathan Sargent was the first candidate to speak to the audience. He said he is a farmer that lives west of Stinnett and his wife is from the Pringle area.

Borger EDC backs Provenance Consulting expansion

On Tuesday afternoon, the Borger Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors approved to provide Provenance Consulting a grant worth $165,000 which will be used to help create 10 new jobs by December 31, 2014.

Spearman man killed in Tuesday wreck

March 7, 2012

A 21-year-old student was killed Tuesday after his car was struck by a semi-truck.
According to Trooper Gabriel Medrano, at 10:47 a.m. Tuesday, Antonio Hernandez of Spearman, who was driving a 1992 Toyota Camry, was heading south on Highway 136, three minutes south of Stinnett.
He drove on the right shoulder, then overcorrected to the left, putting him in the oncoming traffic lane where he collided with Jackie Lynn Walker, driver of a 2006 Freight-liner hauling a semi-trailer, heading north.
