Lady Plainsmen sign Dumas outside hitter

On Friday, Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen Head Volleyball Coach Ashley Dyer signed Dumas outside hitter Allison Kiewiet at the BCAC.
Kiewiet was a four-year letterman for a successful Dumas volleyball team, averaging 17 kills and four blocks per match.

District 5 Wrestling meet held in Borger

On Saturday, the District 5 wrestling meet was held at Tex Hanna Gym here in Borger.
Over the past several years, Dumas has established themselves as the team to beat for the district title, and that was the case again, as the Demons won the tournament with 156 points.
The young Borger wrestling team finished the tournament in sixth place.
Junior Dustin Tucker earned a trip to the regional meet by fnishing the tournament in second place in the 220 weight class, falling to Sergio Perez of Dumas 7-3 in the championship match.

Clarence J. “Gabby” Stevens

Clarence J. “Gabby” Stevens, resident of Fairfax, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at his home. He was 88 years of age.
Clarence was born October 24, 1923 in Limon, Colorado, the son of Albert F. Stevens and Ethel (Van Cleave) Stevens. A WWII veteran, he served his country in the United States Army from January 1944 until June 1945. He was a member of Ponca City’s American Legion Post 14 and the VFW.

Nancy Derreberry Shults Long Renfroe

Dandridge, TN-Nancy Derreberry Shults Long Renfroe, 72 of Jonesborough, TN, formerly of Dandridge, TN and Borger, TX passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 2 and Interment graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 3, all under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. She was laid to rest at McCampbell’s Chapel Cemetery in Dandridge, TN.

HCUW prepares for Day of Caring

The Hutchinson County United Way (HCUW) is looking for projects for their Day of Caring on April 28th.
The Day of Caring gives volunteers in the community an opportunity to come together to give their time and services to work on a one-time project in an effort to impact our community’s needs with tasks they are unable to perform themselves.
HCUW is asking people to submit project requests if they know of someone within the community who is elderly or disabled and in need of help with home improvement projects.

HCHD Board to meet on Monday evening

On Monday evening, the Hutchinson Country Hospital (HCHD) Board of Directors will gather for the regularly scheduled February meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the GPCH Executive Board Room.
During the meeting, the board will take action on calling the election for the HCHD Board of Directors for precinct seats 2 and 4.
Other new business items on the agenda include: an audit report will be given by Baird, Kurtz, and Dodson (BKD) for the hospital district, action on the amount for the intergovernmental transfer, and the 1115 Waiver program.

Borger boys win, girls tie against Pampa

On Friday evening, the Borger Bulldogs came away with a big 7-1 win over the Pampa Harvesters, while the Borger Lady Bulldogs and Pampa Lady Harvesters played to a 1-1 tie in District 5-4A soccer action.

The Bulldogs dominated the Harvesters with five Borger players putting goals into the net. Borger goalkeeper Alberto Rangel had a good game coming up with five saves.
The Bulldogs are 1-0-1 in district play

Dalhart pulls away to defeat Borger, 65-37

DALHART-On Friday evening, the Dalhart Golden Wolves used a 12-1 run to end the third period helping them to pull away for the 65-37 win over the Borger Bulldogs in District 1-3A play.
Despite the Bulldogs’ having a combination of a 26% shooting percentage and 24 turnovers, Borger was only down by seven points with about 3:00 minutes to go in the third period. However, nine of the team’s turnovers took place in the fourth period leading to the Wolves outscoring Borger 23-11 in the final eight minutes.

Lady Eagles top Bushland, 51-43

On Friday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles started out slow and not up to par against a feisty Bushland Lady Falcon team. It was a fight from tipoff with a lot of physical rough-housing.
The Lady Eagles managed to keep their lead throughout the first quarter, in a pretty well even match with Sanford-Fritch on top 14-12.
To start the second quarter, Sanford-Fritch came out a little sluggish and let the Lady Falcons sneak back in with a 10-4 run, helping Bushland take the lead at halftime, 25-22.

Canadian too much for Comanches to handle

The West Texas Comanches saw any hope of a playoff appearance go up in smoke last night. The Tribe hosted the Canadian Wildcats on Senior night in the final District game between the two schools due to realignment. The Comanches kept pace with the Wildcats in the first quarter, but Canadian’s defense held WT to single digit scoring in the second and third quarter to easily win the game 52-34.
