Give a gift to those who need it, the gift of life, and learn more about the community in the process. May 5, 2012 is Community Awareness Day at the Borger Elks Lodge, 200 Opal.
The blood drive is a part of T.J. Whiteleyâ€™s Eagle Scout project. Citizens are encouraged to come to the give the gift of life at the blood drive with Coffee Memorial Blood Center. All eligible donors will receive a t-shirt.
A Borger man arrested Tuesday on explicit conduct charges filed in 2011 declared his innocence in federal court on Thursday.
On March 20, 2011, at the Federal Court House in Amarillo, James Bradley Taylor, 27 years of age, was charged with one count of a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct, one count of attempt of receipt of a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct, and on March 28, 2011, he was charged with his third count for possession of child pornography in federal court.
On Friday evening, the Odessa College Lady Wranglers (40-15 overall, 16-2 WJCAC) used two late inning rallies to get the two game sweep over the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen (12-34, 4-14 WJCAC) in WJCAC softball action at LINN Energy Field.

MIDLAND-On Friday, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen split their two games with Midland College Chaparrals by winning game one 7-5 and dropping game two 0-4 in WJCAC play.
The Plainsmen opened game one by scoring four runs in the top of the first inning to give pitcher Brad Wieck a good cushion to work with from the mound.
Midland chipped away at the lead and pulled to within one run in the fifth inning. But the Plainsmen responded by scoring three in the top of the sixth inning.
Joel Villareal had three RBIs and Nolan Hoskins had two RBIs to lead the Plainsmen at the plate.
The Borger Lady Bulldogs Golf Team came in fifth place at the 3A Region I Golf Tournament at San Angelo Country Club by shooting a two round total of 412-409-821.
The Lady Bulldogs finished 38 strokes ahead of district rival Pampa who had a score of 426-433-859 and four strokes behind fourth place Sweetwater, who had a team score of 817.
Andrews cruised to the regional title with a 643, finishing 99 strokes ahead of second place Snyder which shot a 742.
Clarice Myers led the Lady Bulldogs by shooting 100-101-201.

The Sanford-Fritch ISD board of trustees is seeking to fill a vacancy.
Jim McClellan, SFISD Superintendent, said that due to a vacancy on the SFISD board of trustees, the board will be appointing a member of the community to fill the open seat.
â€śThe board would like to encourage anyone who lives within the boundaries of the SFISD and would like to be considered for this appointed position to write or type a letter, no longer than one page, expressing your desire to become a member of the Sanford-Fritch ISD Board of Trustees,â€ť he said.
Frank Phillips College Menâ€™s Basketball player Mike Evans has signed a letter of intent to play for Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Evans was a forward for the Plainsmen the past two seasons. In the 2011-12 season, Evans started 12 games and averaged two points and three rebounds per game. He also averaged 1 block per game, which was third in the league, and did several things for the Plainsmen on the defensive end which did not make its way to the statbook.
Henrietta â€śPollyâ€ť Larkey, 98, of Perryton died Wednesday, April 18.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, at the Stinnett Cemetery with Rev. Bill Burkholder officiating and Litch Sparks assisting. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Polly was born on September 24, 1913 to Anderson Steadman Barrett and Bessie Marion (Dean) Barrett in Thomas, NM. She married Elwin â€śE.W.â€ť Larkey on March 17, 1932 in Clayton, NM. She lived in Hutchinson County from 1926 until 1977 before moving to Perryton in 1977.
Wal-Mart of Borger is doing its part to raise money for the Childrenâ€™s Miracle Network this year, and has two fundraisers planned in the coming weeks to help make that happen.
The first annual Wal-Mart/Childrenâ€™s Miracle Network First Annual â€śThrow For the Kidsâ€ť Disc Golf Challenge will be held at the Johnson Park Youth Center, 1201 Bulldog Boulevard. The challenge will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012.
On Thursday morning, the Borger Mixed Doubles Tennis Team of Abbie Madden and Alix Whitworth advanced to the 3A State Tennis Tournament by coming in second place in the 3A Region I Tournament in Lubbock.
On Wednesday, the Borger duo won three matches to advance to Thursdayâ€™s title match.
After an opening round win, Madden/Whitworth defeated Zevecke/Estes from Alvarado 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, then defeated Lujan/Ochoa from Monahans 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 in the semi-finals.
