Since the bursting of the housing bubble in 2006 and the following failures of many major U.S. financial institutions, Americans have been frantic in trying to find some way to save the suffering economy. Only now are we beginning to realize that the answer may’ve been right in front of us the entire time.
It was hard not to notice the drastic differences in Sundayâ€™s snowfall throughout various parts of town. With some areas receiving only a light frosting, and others a downfall of several inches, one might wonder what the cause is for this seemingly picky blizzard. The Borger News-Herald contacted KVII News Channel 7 Meteorologist Brian James to find the answer.
According to James, the reason for the snowâ€™s behavior lies in two factors: local plants such as the Agrium nitrogen production plant and wind direction.
Neil Ferguson, 80, passed away Sunday, February
Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 13, 2014
at Bible Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial
Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral

Neil was born September 27, 1933 in Erick, Oklahoma to
Clyde and Ozie Ferguson. He proudly served in the United
States Army. Neil married Virginia Swaffar in Clovis, New
Mexico on July 3, 1953. He was a loving husband, father,
grandfather and great grandfather.
Joe Thomas Lee, 88, died February 8, 2014 in
Borger. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30
a.m. at the Church of Christ at Borger with Denny Sneed,
Minister officiating. Services under the direction of Minton
Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Joe was born to William Thomas Lee and Lois May
Bishop Lee November 7, 1925 in Kingston, OK. He moved
to Borger in 1927 where he graduated from Borger High
School in 1942, went on to graduate from Texas Tech University
with a bachelors degree and then received his masters
degree from West Texas State University. Joe worked
Gary Douglas Adkins, 64, of Fritch, passed
away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, February 7,
2014, following a valiant battle against illness.
Graveside service will be held for Gary on Tuesday, February
11, 2014 in Westlawn Memorial Park at 2 pm, officiated by
Jake Minton with arrangements by Minton-Chatwell Funeral
Directors of Fritch. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Kindy,
Scott Kindy, Seth Adkins, Michael Webb, Gary Winters and
Bill Maddox. Visitation for Garyâ€™s many friends with his family
will be at the funeral home at Broadway and and Canadian
Florene Miller Watson, 93, of Borger, Texas, died February 4, 2014. Celebration
of Life services will be at 10:30 am Monday, February 10, 2014 at Faith Covenant Church
in Borger with Pastor Les Sharp officiating and under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral
Directors of Borger. The family will receive guests Sunday, February 9, 2014 from
5-7pm at the funeral home.
Florene Miller Watson was born on December 7, l920 in San Angelo, Texas to Thomas L.
and Flora Theis Miller. Her father was a watchmaker and owner of a jewelry store chain in
Local Police, State Troopers, and Federal Agents have siezed suspected drug money and vehicles from a Borger residence in an ongoing operation.
On Wednesday, February 5, 2014 Federal DEA agents, state DPS agents, and Borger Police Department officers conducted a raid in Borger where Captain Anthony Griffin of the BPD says the three agencies, including the Borger Police Department K-9 Unit, moved on a residence believed to be used by a Mexican drug trafficking organization.
Jonna Juan Loftis, 59, of Borger, Texas passed
away February 3, 2014.
Jonna was born November 27, 1954 in Potter County to
James Warren and Rachel Loftis.
Ms. Loftis is preceded in death by her parents and two
brothers James (Goat) Loftis and Donald Scallion.
Survivors include One daughter Toiya Loftis of Jacksonville,
Florida, Two sons, Rafael and wife Lauren Dickson
of Borger, Texas Eric Dickson of Paris, Texas. Four grandchildren,
Taylor Dickson, Demetri Dickson, Caleb Dickson,
and Chole Dickson ,one great-granddaughter Carter Dickson.
The Frank Phillips Softball team announced today that there have been several changes made to the FPC softball schedule due to the winter weather that has come through the area. The games scheduled on Saturday February 8th in Trinidad, CO versus Trinidad State Junior College have been postponed with no make-up date scheduled. The games scheduled on Tuesday February 11th versus Garden City Community College have been moved to Wednesday February 12th.
