UPDATE #3: Grass fire north of Stinnett now mainly under control

A grass fire is currently raging at the Turkey Track Ranch, approximately 15 miles northeast of Stinnett. According to Danny Richards, Hutchinson County's Chief Emergency Services Coordinator, the fire has currently consumed approximately 200-300 acres of land.

Emergency crews from Hutchinson County, Stinnett, Borger, Fritch, Skellytown, Spearman, the Crutch Ranch, Big Creek Ranch, and the Parks Service are all on-scene attempting to help control the blaze.

Sam Joe McLaughlin

February 13, 2014

Sam Joe McLaughlin, 89, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday, February 10, 2014 in the Minton Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Sam was born April 28, 1924 in Yantis, Texas to William and Minnie McLaughlin. He married Vada Hamil on March 7, 1952 in Clayton, New Mexico. Sam proudly served in the United States Army. He retired after 38 years with J.M. Huber. An avid bowler he enjoyed watching sports on television.

Lottie Swopes

Lottie Swopes was born to Mick and Jewell (Adkins) Rowe on October 20, 1926 at Centrahoma, Ok. She departed this life on February 7th at the Noble Health Care Center at the age of (87) years. Mrs. Swopes attended school at Durham, Ok. She and Mr. Thomas Swopes were United in Marriage on November 18, 1944 at Reydon, Ok. They were married for (66) years before he preceded her in death. They made their home in Norman before moving to Noble in (1978). She was employed with the Cheyenne Nursing Home and Rosewood Manor Nursing Home in Norman before her retirement.

Lillie Simpson Chaffin

Lillie Simpson Chaffin, 90 of Sanford died Tuesday February 11th in Amarillo. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday February 15th at First Baptist Church Sanford with Rev. Larry Brock pastor officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch. There will be a visitation Friday from 5: 00 pm to 7:00 pm. Lillie was born April 12,1923 at Whitesboro, Texas to Oliver W. and Myra Womble Simpson. She had been a Sanford resident since 1948. She was a member of First Baptist church of Sanford.
