Funeral services for Wanda Louise Jinks, 87 of Claremore were at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2012 at Memorial Heights Baptist Church with Pastorsâ€™ Paul Simpson, Darrell Meadow and Darin Haddox officiating. Interment will follow in Lone Elm Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Musgrove-Merriott- Smith Funeral Chapel with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
John J. Walker, 88, a resident of Borger from 1945-2008, died December 29, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas, where he lived with his son. His wife, Helen Walker, preceded him in death on November 19, 2012.
Born in Ben Wheeler, Texas, on March 13, 1924, to John Henry Walker and Maude Howell Walker, John was one of 11 siblings who helped his parents earn their living as farmers in Ben Wheeler.
Leonard C. Deskin died December 31 in Amarillo.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday at Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leonard Forsythe, Pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Julia Bird Williams, 96, of Borger died Sunday, December 30, 2012.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ with Lindell Brown and Pastor Harry Williams presiding. Interment will be at the Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Julia is preceded in death by her parents; and Aunt Ruth Waites.
FRITCH - Jay Harstead, 40, of Fritch, died January 1, 2013 in Amarillo.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, January 4, 2013, at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel in Pampa, with Rev. Danny Courtney, pastor of First Baptist Church of Fritch, officiating. Cremation will follow under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Harstead was born March 4, 1972 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and was a longtime resident of Borger and Amarillo before moving to Fritch with his life partner, Brett.
As 2012 draws to a close, many are happy to see it go. There were many ugly stories in the sports world this year, and many are ranking the Penn State scandal the biggest news story of the year. There were also positive stories (which I like to focus on), many of which emerged from the 2012 London Olympics this summer.
FRITCH - Asker â€śGubeâ€ť Raymond Harp, 90, of Fritch died Monday, December 31, 2012 in Amarillo. Graveside Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013, at the Stinnett Cemetery with Rev. Leonard Forsythe officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
Asker was born on April 4, 1921 in Warner, Oklahoma to Willam Rosco and Clara Ethel (Porter) Harp. Asker served his country in the Army Air Corp in World War II.
Many Borger Bulldogs, Sanford-Fritch Eagles, and West Texas Comanches were named to their respective all-district teams.
Colton Valle, a senior running back for the Eagles, was named the District 1-2A Division II MVP.
His junior teammate, Andrew Reynolds, was named the districtâ€™s Defensive MVP.
In addition to receiving first team all-district honors, Kendrick Freeman, a sophomore running back for Borger, was named Sophomore of the Year on the Amarillo Globe News Super Team.
He led the Bulldogsâ€™ rushing attack with 1,158 yards and eight touchdowns on the season.
The Borger Police Department responded to a DWI wreck at 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
Dylan Miles Faulkner, 25, of Borger, was driving a Blue Honda Civic while intoxicated and wrecked on the 1000 block of West Wilson.
According to Assistant Police Chief Bruce Roberts, Faulkner was headed eastbound on Wilson. He lost control of his vehicle and struck a light post. There were no injuries reported.
Faulkner was arrested at the scene and sent to the County Jail.
Hutchinson County High School Seniors, the Vietnam Veterans of America, North Plains Chapter 404, Borger, Texas, wish to award a Hutchinson County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarship to four (4) graduating seniors from any Hutchinson County High School, or home schooled graduating students from each district.
