Kaye Mardis, 74, born September 12, 1939 in Phillips, Texas died November 23, 2013 in Amarillo, Texas
A memorial service was held by the family in Borger in honor of Kaye and to celebrate her life.
Kaye was born September 12, 1939 in Phillips, Texas to Hal and Ilene Nail. She was formerly of Amarillo yet had lived in Borger for several years. Kaye married Randall Mardis on December 11, 1959 in Phillips. They were married for almost 54 wonderful years. Kaye was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Ruby Lee Douglas, 74, died Friday, November 22, 2013 in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock, with Rev. Jim Sinyard, pastor of the Carpenter Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

Glen E. Buckles, age 78, died peacefully at home, Thursday, November 21, 2013 in Borger, Texas. Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the 1st Baptist Church with Leon Mitchell officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

NICHOLAS F. “Nick” VELOZ

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Stinnett native, Nichols F. Veloz, 70, passed away Nov. 5, 2013, in Alexandria, Va.
Graveside services were held on Nov. 12, 2013, in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Alexandria, Va. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 23, 2013, in the chapel of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1200 S. Washington, Amarillo.
Raised in Stinnett, Nick began school in the first grade in the Stinnett school system and graduated from Stinnett High in 1961.
He attended Frank Phillips College and graduated from the University of Texas.

James “Jimmy” Oscar Jones

James “Jimmy” Oscar Jones was called home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 19, 2013. Services will be held November 23 at 2:00 PM at Grace Fellowship with Blaine Shelton, associate pastor.
In reflection of a life it is challenging to capture the meaning of that life, and how that life made a difference to countless others. Here is our family’s attempt to impart just a glimpse of the spirit of Jimmy Jones.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Stinnett native, Nichols F. Veloz, 70, passed away Nov. 5, 2013, in Alexandria, Va.

Graveside services were held on Nov. 12, 2013, in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Alexandria, Va. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 23, 2013, in the chapel of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1200 S. Washington, Amarillo.

Raised in Stinnett, Nick began school in the first grade in the Stinnett school system and graduated from Stinnett High in 1961.
He attended Frank Phillips College and graduated from the University of Texas.

City Council confirms new Borger Police Chief

The Borger Police Department has a new Chief of Police.

In the regular meeting of the Borger City Council on Tuesday, November 19, the council voted to confirm Bruce Roberts as BPD Chief in a 3-2 split.

The motion to confirm was made by Council Member Charles Gillingham; and Councilman Marvin “Bubba” Dickson seconded. Mayor Jeff Brain joined Gillingham and Dickson while Councilwoman Brandy Callahan and Councilman Robert Vinyard voted against the motion.

Roberts has served as Captain in the BPD and has been in law enforcement for 30 years.

Fredric Michael “Freddy” Miranda

Fredric Michael “Freddy” Miranda died Sunday November 17 in Amarillo. Memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Minton Memorial Chapel under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Freddy was born August 18, 1963 in Grand Rapids, MI. He had been employed by Rose Insulation and Iowa Beef Packers. He was a veteran of the Texas National Guard. He was a licensed minister, an Artist and loved sports, reading the bible, to work on cars and he loved learning about new things.

Missing Borger girl returns home safely

Melissa Graves, the fifteen year old Borger girl who went missing last Monday night has returned home to her family.

Graves, who left her home in the middle of the night a week ago, was spotted at a home owned by relatives of her alleged boyfriend, according to Debbie Goforth, the girl’s mother. After police were contacted, says the mom, Graves panicked and left through a back exit, making her way back home around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Connecticut family pleads for father's return

A mother of two from Connecticut has contacted the Borger News-Herald with a plea for her husband, Michael, who left home two weeks ago and has not returned.

“Two weeks ago today my husband and my children’s daddy got up to go to work, kissed and hugged me goodbye told me he loved me. He walked out the door and never came back...” said Susan Cox of Kensington, CT, in a letter to the News-Herald.
