Borger residents plead guilty in drug case

January 5, 2012

Three Borger, Texas, residents indicted in November 2011 on various offenses related to narcotics trafficking and gambling pleaded guilty in federal court in Amarillo,on Jan 5, 2012, before U.S. District Judge Mary Lou Robinson.

Phyllis Goins

January 5, 2012

Phyllis Goins, 88, of Ozark, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 in Ozark.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ozark, Ark., a member of Jane Phillips Sorority, and a board member of Sr. Citizens. She was born August 4, 1923 to Ross and Nora Craig Mullins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James H. Goins and a sister Glenda Sue Cole.
Memorial services were held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 3, 2011 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark, Ark.

Don Rice to celebrate 50 years with BNH

One of the most familiar faces of the Borger News-Herald is celebrating a significant milestone this year!
Don Rice will be celebrating 50 years as the photographer for the BNH this March. He came to work for the paper in 1962.
In his honor, the BNH is doing a special section featuring some of his most prominent photos from the decades he has been on staff here. However, the BNH plans to take it one step further, and this will require help from you!

New Year’s Eve robbery under investigation by BPD

January 5, 2012

Borger PD is seeking answers in connection with a robbery that occurred on New Year’s Eve.
The robbery occurred the morning of Saturday, December 31, 2011 around 7 a.m. at Allsup’s 416 W. Wilson. Lieutenant Anthony Griffin stated three employees were inside during the incident at the rear of the store, and one employee was taking out the trash through the back door.

Bulldogs dominate Lynx 50-20

January 4, 2012

SPEARMAN-Tuesday evening can be considered one of the more dominating performances the Borger Bulldog basketball team has seen on the court in a couple of years.
Despite the Spearman Lynx attempts to slow down the game and limit scoring opportunities for Borger, the Bulldogs controlled the action from the opening tip off on their way to getting a 50-20 win in Spearman.

Turnovers plague Lady Bulldogs in loss to Spearman

SPEARMAN-On Tuesday evening, the Borger Lady Bulldogs were able to get off to a fast start against the Spearman Lynxettes by opening the game taking an 9-0 lead.
Yet despite the fast start, Spearman took advantage of 13 Lady Bulldog turnovers in the first half to battle back and set the tone in the second half, which saw the Lynxettes pull away for the 57-33 win.
The game opened with sophomore Nellie Embers hitting a jumper to get Borger a 2-0 lead just ten seconds into the game.

Irma Lee Whiteley

January 4, 2012

AMARILLO – Irma Lee Whiteley, 85, died Jan. 2, 2012.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Llano Cemetery with Pastor Larry McKnight officiating. Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel, Amarillo, TX.
Mrs. Whiteley was born on Sept. 11, 1926, in Lelia Lake to C.W. and Ida Robinette. She married James Whiteley on Feb. 9, 1946, in Amarillo, TX. Irma loved her family and friends and had a special place in her heart for her little dog “Abby.”
She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters.

McWilliams: Parents need to educate children on drug dangers

What can we call a “safe environment” when children and young adults can alter their state of mind with basic household items?
According to Captain Aaron K. McWilliams of the Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Office, the office have seen an increase in theses behaviors to just keep up a quick “high.” McWilliams says, “A common practice is still using forms of inhalants; however, we have seen the following toxic aerosols to include: compressed difluorethane (compressed gas dusters for computers, etc.... ) as well as the continued use of spray paint and gasoline.”
