Bushland hangs on to beat Borger 63-57

On Tuesday evening, the Bushland Falcons held off a fourth period rally by the Borger Bulldogs to get the 63-57 win in the final non-district contest for both teams at Bushland.
A sluggish second period by the Bulldogs led to Bushland taking an eight point, 34-26, lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs bounced back in the second half and pull back to within one point, 57-58, with under a minute to go in the game.
However, the Falcons found a way to hang on and send the Bulldogs to 9-11 for the season. while Bushland improves to 10-8.

LINN Energy ready to celebrate grand opening

LINN Energy is preparing to celebrate the grand opening of its new regional office in Borger.
The company will be hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the office. LINN Energy will also be presenting Dr. Jud Hicks, President of Frank Phillips College, with its donation to fund equipment for the P&E and I&E technology program. The new facility is located at 1201 Fairlanes Boulevard, and the public is invited to attend.

County remains free of burn ban

Hutchinson County will remain free of a burn ban.
On the Hutchinson County Commissioners Court met for a regular meeting at the Hutchinson County Courthouse to discuss the ban.
Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards spoke to the commissioners, recommending “that we hold what we have. To continue to not have the burn ban,” he said.
The burn ban was lifted on Nov. 21, 2011 and will continue to stay that way, after the commissioners took no action on the item.

Comanches and Lady Bulldogs open district play on the road

After tonight, the Borger Bulldogs and Sanford-Fritch Eagles boys basketball teams will be the only Hutchinson County basketball teams waiting to get district basketball play underway.
After making it through a tough non-district schedule, the Borger Lady Bulldogs begin District 1-3A play tonight taking on the Pampa Lady Harvesters beginning at 6:00 p.m. in Pampa.
The Lady Bulldogs posted a 4-14 record during non-district play, while the Lady Harvesters enter the game with a 10-10 record.

Tom Mechler to be featured speaker at HCRW meeting

Hutchinson County Republican Women would like to Welcome the Texas Republican Party Treasurer Tom Mechler to our scheduled meeting on January 12 at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be held at Dake’s Restaurant in Borger.
All citizens interested in hearing about the direction our State will be taking and about the field of candidates for statewide office in the upcoming elections are cordially invited to attend and hear this talented and charismatic speaker. Dinner will be served.
Tom Mechler has been politically involved for over twenty-five years.

Webb to be inducted into Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame

Longtime Borger High School Coach E.J. “Jeep Webb will be part of this year’s three-person induction class into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, February 12th at 2:00 p.m. in Amarillo College’s Ordway Auditorium.
Joining Webb in this year’s induction class are former Nazareth and West Texas A&M women’s basketball player Leona (Gerber) Wilhelm and former Dumas Head Football Coach, the late Bill Spann.
Webb started his time in Borger in 1958 as an assistant coach before moving to Canyon in 1960.

Blood drive taking place in Borger Jan. 26

A blood drive is set to take place in Borger in about two weeks.
The Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be holding a drive at the Union Hall, 111 East Coolidge on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
All eligible donors who present to donate will receive a M*A*S*H* t-shirt in appreciation for giving the gift of life.
A photo ID or donor card is required to donate, and donors must be at least 17 years of age to be eligible to give blood.
Suzanne Talley of CMBC said that all blood types are currently needed.

Frank Phillips rolls past Clarendon College 107-86

On Saturday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen men’s basketball team began the second half of the 2011-12 season hosting rival the Clarendon College Bulldogs at the BCAC.
The game went back and forth in the first half, but the second half belonged to the Plainsmen, who did a good job controlling both ends on the court as they pulled away for a 107-86 win.

HCHD board to discuss upcoming election

January 7, 2012

The Hutchinson County Hospital District Board of Directors will be holding discussion about its upcoming election at its upcoming meeting.
The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, in the executive board room of Golden Plains Community Hospital.
Both Dr. Jock Lee, DVM, and Joe Mihm are elected members of the board whose terms will come up this spring. Dr. Lee is currently serving as chairman of the board.
John Edgington, one of the appointed members of the board, is also seeing his position expire as well. All three are eligible for reelection or reappointment to the board.

Bulldogs battle back to defeat the Greyhounds 38-36

On Friday night, the Borger Bulldogs overcame a bad second period and 19 turnovers in their come from behind 38-36 win over the Gruver Greyhounds in Gruver’s new basketball palace.
The comeback was the result of the team not letting their frustrations get the best of them and instead finding a way to make plays when they needed to in the fourth period, with each player on the roster contributing in the win.
The game started good for the Bulldogs as junior Jamon Hearon scored five points in the first minute to give Borger a quick 5-0 lead.

The West Texas Comanches travel to Wellington Friday night to take on the Skyrockets in a district...
The Borger Bulldogs will travel to Pampa Friday night to face their rivals, Pampa. See weekend...
Lucas Robertson will be heading to Lubbock to represent the Bulldog Cross Country team at regionals...
