Lady Harvesters top Lady Bulldogs 67-41

February 1, 2012

PAMPA-On Tuesday evening, the Pampa Lady Harvesters used a big third period to pull away for the 67-41 win over the Borger Lady Bulldogs in District 1-3A play.
The Lady Bulldogs entered the gym, at Pampa High School, determined not to let Pampa run away early for a blowout win like their first meeting in district play.

Merna Beene Morrison

Merna Beene Morrison, 80, of Borger TX, passed away, Saturday, January 28, 2012.
Merna June Beene Morrison was born Sunday, June 28, 1931 in Hammon, Ok to William James Beene and Mildred (Payne) Beene. Merna graduated from Phillips High School. Later she married her high school sweetheart, Norman Morrison Sr. in Borger, TX on August 31, 1949. In 1963 Norman and Merna purchased the Budweiser Distributing Company in Borger, TX. After their only child was through school, Merna worked alongside her husband in the business. They enjoyed being known as the Budman and Budlady for many years.

According to United States Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña, Northern District of Texas Judge Mary Lou Robinson ordered sentencing dates for the Fernandez family and others involved in the case.

Flex Lab gives high school students much-needed opportunities

Even with the closing of CHAMPS Academy, the development of a program by Sanford-Fritch High School is helping those who need it to graduate from high school.
Sometime in early 2010, CHAMPS in Fritch was closed due to low funding. CHAMPS Academy was an alternative, non-traditional, high school for students of Borger, Dumas, Panhandle, Plemons-Stinnett-Phillips, Sanford-Fritch, and Sunray.

Sargent running for county commissioner

Nathan Sargent is running for the position of County Commissioner, Precinct 3.
Sargent has lived in Hutchinson County for 52 years. He has been farming for 38 years, and now owns and operates his family farm.
He attends First Baptist Church of Stinnett, where he is also involved in ministries of the church. He has served on the Pringle/Morse School Board, and currently serves on the Board Coop. He is married to Donna Burris, and has two grown children and six grandchildren. He enjoys following his grandchildren in their activities, and also enjoys riding four-wheelers and hunting.

Borger opened district soccer play with Palo Duro

On Monday evening, the Borger Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs Varsity Soccer teams opened up District 5-4A soccer play in Amarillo against Palo Duro.
In the boys game, the Bulldogs battled against a tough Dons team to a 1-1 tie. George Sifuentes had the lone Bulldog goal with Lane Newcomb getting the assist.
In the girls game, the Lady Dons defeated the Lady Bulldogs 2-1. Sammie Huckabee scored for the Lady Bulldogs with Brooke Scott getting the assist.

T-Birds top Plainsmen 79-76 in WJCAC action

Some losses are easier to take than others and on Monday night, the Frank Phillips College Plainsmen had to of left the court at the BCAC with a bitter taste in the mouths after losing to the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds, 79-76.
After trailing by ten pints at the 18:42 mark in the second half, the Plainsmen battled hard the next 16 minutes to finally take a one point lead with 1:55 left in the game. Unfortunately, three straight foul calls and two turnovers in the final minute helped the T-Birds escape with the win and send the Plainsmen to 1-4 in WJCAC play.

Lady Plainsmen fall to New Mexico JC 64-49

On Monday evening, the Frank Phillips College Lady Plainsmen put up a good fight in the second half against conference leaders New Mexico Junior College. But the Lady T-Birds were able to pull out the 64-49 win over the Lady Plainsmen in WJCAC play at the BCAC.
The Lady T-Birds opened the game taking a 3-11 lead by the 12:54 mark of the first half. But the Lady Plainsmen crawled back into the game, led by LaChrista Nash scoring seven first half points and Laura Martinez nailing two three pointers, to get to within two points at the 7:20 mark, 18-20.

Nolan Ernest "Scooter" Lanham

AMARILLO – Nolan Ernest “Scooter” Lanham, 58, died Jan. 28, 2012.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at New Life Church
With Spike Malonado officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home.
