Opportunities Center holding Thanksgiving feast Thursday

The Opportunities Center will be hosting their Thanksgiving Feast. This years dinner will be held on Nov. 15 at the Opportunities Center, 930 Illinois. This years dinner will consist of Baked turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, corn bread dressing, sweet potatoes, green beans, tossed salad, pumpkin or pecan pie with whipped cream and a dinner roll, coffee tea, or water. Serving time will be at regular hours from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30.

Give the gift of life this holiday season

This holiday season is about giving and celebration. What better way than to give and celebrate than to give the gift of life and celebrate survival?
This December there will be two blood drives for those willing to give blood to save a life. The first blood drive will be at Frank Phillips College, 901 S. Opal in the Center for Access & Innovation building Conference Center Room on Dec. 3, 2012, from 12 noon to 5:30 p.m.
The second drive will also be held on Dec. 3 in Stinnett at the Community Center, 801 Main Street, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Chamber, BNH sponsoring lighting contest

The Chamber of Commerce and Borger News-Herald are sponsoring this year's Christmas lighting contest.
All entries must be within two miles of Borger City limits. Entries can be submitted in business and residence categories.
If the decorating is at a place of business, it qualifies as a business entry. If the decorating takes place at a residence it is in the individual category.
Cash prizes will be awarded for both categories . $300 will be given for first place, $200 will be given for second place, and $100 will be given for third place.

Lady Dogs open season with wins

November 12, 2012

The JV Lady Bulldogs opened their season Saturday against the Boys Ranch Lady Riders. B. Urquidi opened scoring with a jumper with 6:25 remaining in the first. Tate had a nice steal that led to two, and Burrows and Schubert also recorded steals early. The Lady Dogs were great at driving it inside and drawing fouls. Schubert ended the half with a nice two and the ladies were up 22-13.

Roy Hudson, 81, of Borger died Saturday Nov. 10, 2012, in Borger.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday Nov. 13, 2012, at Church of Christ at Borger with Mr. Denny Sneed of the church and Mr. Richard Kasko of Fritch Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Hugh Cantrell

November 10, 2012

Borger resident Hugh Cantrell died suddenly in Sandy, Ore., while on vacation visiting his family. He was 78.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Oaks Nazarene Church in Duncan, Okla. Private inurnment will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Eagles are district champs!

Sanford-Fritch rolled to a 55-32 victory over Boys Ranch to claim the district 1-2A division II title with a 4-0 record.
The first half was slow for the Eagles, as they only scored 14 of their points then. The game was tied 14 all at the half.
They exploded for 41 (29 in the third quarter) points in the second half to put the game away.
Colton Valle again led the Eagles’ offense with three touchdowns and 214 yards on 17 carries. His three touchdowns were runs of 38, 59, and 40.

Bulldogs are playoff bound!

All Borger needed was a win to get in. They played their way into the playoffs by beating River Road (0-4) in the final district contest of the year on Friday night. Perryton held on to beat Dalhart by two, so that means Borger (2-2) earned the third playoff spot, their win over Pampa being huge. The Bulldogs scored 14 points in the final quarter to put the Wildcats away 24-3 and earn their right to move on to the next round.
River Road receives to start play. Suttle, Gowdy, Henry, and Mesneak go to work on defense holding the Wildcats to 9 total yards on the opening drive.

Seven Lady Bulldogs receive All-District awards

Seven Lady Bulldogs received honors when the 1-3A All-District results were released on Thursday.
Receiving first team honors for Borger were senior Emma Wood and senior Haley Armstrong. Wood and Armstrong were second team all-district last year.
Second team honors this year went to senior Kaylee Purcell and junior Katie Ammerman.
Honorable mentions for the Lady Dogs were seniors Nicole McMurry, Maggie McMurry, and junior Nellie Embers, who was the district’s newcomer of the year last year.
MVP of the district was junior Britt Wilson of Dalhart.

Veteran's Day events scheduled

November 10, 2012

Several events are scheduled over Veterans Day weekend and Monday to honor military veterans, those serving in the armed forces.
Also, several restaurants have announced special deals for military families.
Lorene’s Mexican Kitchen, 1600 N. Main, will provide free meals for active military and veterans on Saturday, November 10, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. IDs must be presented proving present or past military service. The family of Lorene’s Mexican Kitchen are pleased to honor fourteen military family members. Call 273-7106 for more information.
