Demolition of old hospital building progressing

February 16, 2012

Although the date has not been set, the demolition of the 200 S. McGee property is progressing and should begin within the next week.
The general contractor JE Dunn has selected A and R demolition for this part of the project. Complete demolition is still pending the separation of steel and usable material from remaining structure and construction debris. Usable materials will be removed from the area, before structural demolitions starts. All utilities are in the process of being cut and capped.

Area resident wins trip to “The Price is Right”

An area resident may get to “come on down!”
Kim Charles, 55, of Pampa, who works at Golden Plains Community Hospital in Borger, won a trip for two to Las Vegas, Nev. After losing a “Price is Right” scratch-off, Charles sent in the ticket for a second chance to win. She and 24 other people won this trip.
The trip includes a four-day and three-night stay, travel expenses, two show tickets, tickets to “The Price is Right, and $5,000.

Lake Meredith, Alibates seek to update fire management plan

Lake Meredith National Recreation Area and Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument are seeking to update their fire management plan.
The two entities are proposing to update this plan to formally lay out the process and actions for prescribed burning on adjacent private ranchlands, including the attendant vegetation manipulation necessary along firelines to control these prescribed burns.

Lady Bulldogs and Lady Horns play to a 2-2 tie

On Wednesday evening, the Amarillo Caprock Lady Longhorns scored a goal in the 71st minute to force the 2-2 tie with the Borger Lady Bulldogs in District 5-4A action.
The game was a rescheduled contest from last Friday, when the game was cancelled due to a muddy field.
In the fourth minute, the Lady Bulldogs had the first scoring opportunity of the game, when Shelby Harris appeared to break open with the ball. But Harris’ shot would get deflected keeping the game scoreless.

Amarillo Caprock tops Borger 4-1 in boys soccer action

On Wednesday evening, the Amarillo Caprock Longhorns and the Borger Bulldogs squared off is a physical District 5-4A contest with the Longhorns coming away with the 4-1 win.
From the beginning to the end, both teams came out playing physical leading to several yellow and red cards to be pulled out during the game.
The Longhorns jumped out on top early by scoring two goals in the first ten minutes of the game.
The Bulldogs would settle down and play solid defense the rest of the game, but were limited in their scoring opportunities.

FRITCH - Carolyn J. Gomoke, 70, of Fritch, died Monday Feb. 13, 2012, in Plainview, Texas.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday Feb. 16, at Faith Baptist Church in Fritch. Officiating will be Don Rice, pastor and Jeremy Rice. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in the Garden of Evergreen under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.

Margaret Ann Jefferson Canter, 73, of Borger, died February 12, 2012 at Borger Healthcare Center.
Family will be conducting a memorial service 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Stinnett – Johnny Almon Monden, 79, died Sunday February 12 in Lubbock. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at the 1st Baptist Church in Stinnett with Rev. Mike Donathan, Pastor, Rev Donald Ward, Pastor of 1st United Methodist Church in Stinnett and Rev. Rhonda Greenwood, Pastor of 1st United Methodist Church in Merkel, TX. Interment with military honors will follow at Stinnett Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Joe W. Hayes, Sr., 94, of Borger, Texas, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in Amarillo, Texas.
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at the First Methodist Church of Borger, Texas.
Joe was born in Clarkesville, Texas on April 2, 1917 to William C. Hayes and Dulcenia (Bateman) Hayes. Joe graduated from high school in Allison, Texas and received bachelors and masters degrees from West Texas College. Joe was an outstanding athlete, having lettered four years in both football and basketball at West Texas College, graduating in 1939.

Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles lose heartbreaker to Idalou

On Tuesday evening, the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles got handed a heartbreaker on Valentines in their 2A Bi-District playoff match with Idalou at Canyon High School on Tuesday, 50-42.
The Lady Eagles started with two quick points from sophomore Christa White. This lead wouldn’t last long with quick shooting and good rebounding by the Lady Cats.
Sanford-Fritch had to play catchup for the rest of the game with the first quarter ending with Sanford-Fritch down by five.

The Lady Eagle volleyball team will head to River Road for a district matchup with the Lady...
