The Frank Phillips Lady Plainsmen prevailed in a thriller of a volleyball match against conference foes the NMMI Broncos. FPC took it to five sets, fought hard, and came out on top.
In the first set, the ladies were up early, but NMMI came back to tie it at 12. A kill from Allison Kieweit put FPC up again, but they fell behind 20-18. NMMI would outscore the ladies 5-2 in the final points to take it 25-20.
Set two began with a lot of errors and the Lady Plainsmen found themselves down 5-2. After being down by 5, FPC tied it at 15 but eventually lost it 25-21.
According to 87th District Representative Four Price, there are many crucial issues facing the state of Texas in the upcoming legislative session.
Price stopped in Borger Thursday to speak to the Hutchinson County Retired School Personnel Association at Frank Phillips College. He said when the 82nd legislative session began, there was a $27 billion shortfall, and many agencies saw their funds cut. He said the field of education saw some of the biggest cuts, because it is the largest recipient of state dollars.
Borger, Texas - Chelsea Brooke Brantwein, 15, of Borger, passed away, Thursday, September 20, 2012 in Amarillo after a long battle with brain cancer.

Melba Colleen Hamilton was born July 2, 1930 in Amarillo Texas to Samuel Eugene and Mary Pearl Morris.
Melba attended schools in Amarillo through her junior year of high school at Amarillo High. She moved to Borger, Texas and graduated from Borger High School in 1948. She received her secretarial certification from Texas Womenâ€™s University in Denton.
Mary Ellen Vaughn, 87, of Borger, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, in Borger.

FRITCH - Marsha Leigh Borders, 61, of Fritch, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, in Amarillo.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Scott Gordon of the Borger ward officiating. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
Marsha Borders was born Nov. 18, 1950, in Decatur, Ill., to Edward Eugene Borders and Ramona Louise (Jackson) Borders.
She was a resident of Fritch since 1996, after moving from Ramona, Calif.
Officials responded to a wreck in the 200 block of Cedar Tuesday evening.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department, the first vehicle, a white Pontiac Bonneville driven by Kelby Loveless, 21, of Borger and carrying a female juvenile passenger, was traveling northbound on Cedar and attempted to make a left-hand turn into the McDonalds parking lot.
When doing so, the Pontiac was struck by a black Nissan two-door vehicle, driven by Zachary Snider, 18, of Borger, and carrying passenger Daniel White, 18, also of Borger.
Most of us marvel at how far Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, and Bubba Watson can hit the golf ball. At the Region 5 Finals held at the Winstar Casino Golf Complex this past weekend, there were over 100 competitors that can hit longer than those three. Shawn Holcomb competed in the Open Class Division on Sunday, September 16th. The weather that morning was not ideal for long drives as it was overcast with a wet fairway and a light rain when the competition started. Thankfully there was not much wind.
