Quanah Parker arrow to be dedicated Friday

A giant arrow, donated by sculptor and artist Charles Smith of New Home, was installed June 15 at Crawford Park on Main Street between the Hutchinson County Museum and City Hall in Borger. Be sure to attend the dedication of this arrow on Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
The arrow stands about 22’ tall and has steel rods that resemble fletching of feathers that vibrate in the wind. The arrow also places Hutchinson County on the Quanah Parker Trail map.

SFISD holding homecoming activities

Sanford-Fritch is doing things a little different during its homecoming this year.
This year Sanford-Fritch ISD has taken out the annual bonfire and parade.
But there will be a pep rally this Friday at 10:09 a.m. in the high school’s new gym.
All this week, students have shown their spirit by participating in spirit week and dressing up in different themes each day.
Monday was Nerd Day, Tuesday was Rock Star Day, Wednesday was Super Hero Day, Thursday is Twin Day, and Friday students will dress for school spirit.

Spud stuff coming up!

The Borger Choir Boosters are busy gearing up for their annual Spud Stuff to be held at the Borger High School Cafeteria, on Friday, Oct. 5. The dinner will take place before the Borger vs Palo Duro football game, from 5-7 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from any middle school or high school choir student or at the door. You will be able to stuff your spud with a variety of toppings, including the traditional butter, cheese, and sour cream. Chili and broccoli will also be available.

Albert Daniel Gonzales, 69, of Borger, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, in Amarillo.
A Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at the St. John’s Catholic Church, and the Funeral Mass will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, also at St. John’s Catholic Church with Father Richard Zanetti officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Joyce Collins, 66, of Fritch, passed away, Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, in Fritch, TX.
Joyce Eileen (Stone) Collins was born Monday, February 18, 1946 in Phillips, TX to Raymond and Edna Stone. She married Mike Collins on August 8, 1964 in Bellflower, CA.
Mrs. Collins is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Eddie Stone and Philip Stone.

Hugh L. Jackson, Jr.

Hugh L. Jackson Jr., died Sept. 25, 2012, in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Westlawn Memorial Park with Rev. John Westman, pastor of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, officiating. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Hugh was born March 19, 1924, in Bartlesville, Okla., to Esther and Hugh Jackson.
