Paul H. Powell Jr. of Tahoka went home to be with his Lord on Sept 5, 2012. Paul was born Feb 10, 1922 in Jasper, TX to Orva and Paul Powell. He was raised in Woodville, TX. He received a B.S. degree from Southwestern University, Georgetown, Tx. and a M.D. degree from Temple University school of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pa. He served in the United States Navy as a flight surgeon.
He married Betty Jo Latham of Stephenville, Tx. in 1948. He was in family practice in Borger from 1958 until his retirement in 1991. Paul later lived in Glen Rose, Tx, McKinney, Tx. and Lubbock, Tx.
Esther Woods, 97 of Stinnett, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in Kismet Cemetery, Kismet, Kansas. Rev. Zeb Sailors, retired pastor of the Church of Christ, will be officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Morrison Funeral Directors.
Tommie Daus Edwards, 92, of Amarillo died Friday, Sept.7, 2012, in Humble.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Bob Miller, pastor of South Georgia Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.
Tommie was born April 26, 1920, in Tillman County, Okla. She was a loving wife and supported her husband Tom and his business, Cliffside Sheet Metal. She was a dedicated housewife and was always busy cleaning house and arranging dresser drawers.
Lake Meredith is gearing up for its annual small-fry fishing tournament.
The tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the Stilling Basin at Spring Canyon. All children ages six through 14 are invited, and there is no charge to participate.
The National Park Service has added a special bonus to this year's event â€“ a new fishing dock and additional covered picnic shelters.

Borger's representative in the state senate was in town Monday to talk to the public about various issues.
Kel Seliger, State Senator for District 31, stopped at Borger City Hall. He said the 83rd legislature will convene in January. Committees have already been working, particularly in the areas of finance and public education, because he said there is a tremendous amount of work to be done.
