AMARILLO – Pat Frith, 68, died Aug. 29, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors 8310 S. Coulter Rd. with Rev. Brad Foster of Calvary Baptist Church, Dumas officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. August 31, 2012.
Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors. The Amarillo High School Class of 1962 will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Jimmy “Footsie” Edyth Brown Sr.

SANFORD - Jimmy “Footsie” Edyth Brown Sr. went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 31, at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Jimmy was born July 8, 1933 in Borger. He was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson County and was well known in the area as a hardworking man in the oil patch.

Come drag Main and help someone in need

Ever since Borgans dragged Main Street on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, it is now becoming a monthly occurrence.
The first Saturday of every month, residents will drag Main, not only for a good time, but for amazing causes. This Saturday’s donations will go towards Chelsea Brantwein and her family to help them financially. This 15-year-old Borgan, Chelsea Brantwein, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Brain Cancer.

Former Borger coach leads team to gold

August 30, 2012

Former Borger High School coach, Jill Rankin Schneider coached the USA Jr. National U17 girls to a gold medal this past Sunday at the FIBA World Championships in Amsterdam,The Netherlands. They went undefeated in the tournament and beat a tough Spain team, 75-62, in the final game.
Schneider has just started her 15th year with Monterey High School in Lubbock, TX. She has been named the district's coach of the year three times, and was chosen as the All-South Plains 4A/5A Coach of the Year by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. She teaches college algebra at Monterey as well.

Hendrickson inducted into Panhandle Veterans Hall of Fame

In an emotional and moving ceremony at the Twenty-Second Panhandle Veterans Hall of Honor in Pampa, veterans, families, and guests joined together to honor individuals who have distinguished themselves not only in the defense of this country, but who have also been positive influences on their respective home communities. One of the inductees was longtime resident of Phillips and Fritch, Richard Harry Hendrickson who was nominated by his daughter, Mona Hendrickson Fannon of Fritch.

Baker: Media constantly undergoing change

Lee Baker, longtime sports director for KVII in Amarillo, visited the Rotary at its weekly meeting on Tuesday. Baker answered questions from attendees and spoke on how social media has affected how news is reported. Baker is entering his 30th season covering football in the panhandle area, so he definitely has been through many changes in the media.

Borger chamber prepping for kickoff breakfast

The Borger Chamber of Commerce is prepping for its upcoming kickoff breakfast.
The annual event is set for Thursday, Sept. 6.
The breakfast will begin with serving lines opening at 6:45 a.m. and will conclude by 8 a.m. The breakfast will be held at Sutphen’s.
Beverly Benton, Chamber CEO, said reservations must be received by noon on Sept. 4 and may be made by calling 274-2211. Tickets for the breakfast are $10 and are payable at the door.

Lynda Owens, 64, of Stinnett, passed away, Monday, August 27, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30PM, Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Brown Chapel in Stinnett, TX with Dwight Kirksey officiating. Burial will follow at Holt Cemetery.
Mrs. Owens will lie in state at Brown Chapel in Stinnett, TX on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 from 8:00AM to 8:00PM and Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 8:00AM to 4:00PM.
