Thelma Holman

Thelma Holman, 85, of Amarillo, passed away, Saturday, August 25, 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM, Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage, Amarillo, TX with Rev. Leonard Forsythe officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30PM at Stinnett Cemetery in Stinnett, TX.
Mrs. Holman will lie in state at Rector Funeral Home in Amarillo, TX.

SPIN doing its part to help those in need

SPIN does more than shows “what comes around goes around.”
SPIN stands for Single Parents In Need. This two-woman organization is run by Tracy Olson and Margaret Engler. Their main goal is to help all single parents in need (men or women) plus some. They are here to help those who need the help in the community.

G Christie (Chris) Watson

Chris Watson was born December l9, 19l6, in Boonville, Kentucky, to George Smith Watson, a Presbyterian minister, and Claudia Dodson, a graduate of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
Chris attended Wooster College where he played quarterback on the football team and was named to the “Ohio All Star” team. He graduated with a BS in Geology and Natural Sciences in l937. Chris continued his education at the University of Pittsburg where he obtained a degree in Petroleum Engineering and then began work with Phillips Petroleum.

William Edward “Eddie” Brame

William Edward “Eddie” Brame, 53, of Borger, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in Borger.
A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Word of Life Church with Pastor Eddie Pesch officiating. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Satellite Workshop holding open house

August 27, 2012

The Borger Satellite Workshop is preparing for an upcoming open house event.
The event will be held at 28 Pantex Street in Borger from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. Admission is $5 a person and this will provide the attendees either with a hamburger or hot dogs with all of the fixings, chips, and a drink.
Lorna Heare, director of the workshop, said there will be a silent auction on donated items from various companies in the Borger area, and there will also be games for the whole family.
The event is to raise funds for the Hutchinson County United Way.

Dolores Morgan

Dolores Morgan, 83, of Borger, passed away, Wednesday, August 22, 2012.
Audrey Dolores (Fagan) Morgan was born Saturday, December 29, 1928 in San Angelo, TX to Henry and Verna (Robertson) Fagan. She married Walter Eugene Morgan in Dallas, TX. Dolores was a sales associate for Wal-Mart.
Mrs. Morgan is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; her sister, Ola Joy Cutchshaw; and two brothers, Henry Coy Fagan and Barney Cecil Fagan.

Citizen has heart attack behind the wheel

A local man experienced a heart attack while behind the wheel Wednesday.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the Borger Police Department, PD responded to the call around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Benefit to be held for Norma Jean Franklin

August 24, 2012

A benefit is being put together to aid a local citizen with medical expenses.
The event is being held for Norma Jean (Speed) Franklin, and is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26.
The cost is by donations and donations will go towards helping Franklin, who has been in the hospital due to a stroke.
It will be held at the Stinnett Community Building on Main Street.
The menu is smoked sausage, cole slaw, beans, hot bread, and dessert.
An auction will immediately follow the meal, and local residents are encouraged to come out in support of Franklin this Sunday.

Clay Renick hired as new museum director

The Hutchinson County Commissioners have found a new Director for the County Museum. On Aug. 13, commissioners unanimously approved to appoint Clay Renick as the new Hutchinson County Museum Director, replacing Wes Phillips, who retired June 13, 2012. Wes Phillips is also known for his insect program where he earned the title of the “Bug Man.” Phillips now teaches at Frank Phillips College.
