Josephine Willerton

Josephine Willerton, 91, of Los Alamos, NM (long-time Borger resident), died Friday, August 17, 2012.
Josephine Louise Hill was born June 7, 1921, in Cherryvale, KS, to Harold and Grace Hill. She met her future husband W. R. “Mike” Willerton while attending Ponca City Junior College. They married June 1, 1942, the day of her graduation from Oklahoma A&M. While her husband served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, she worked in a lab for Continental Oil, developing airplane fuels. They moved to Borger in 1946. Her husband worked in the Phillips refinery for 37 years. He died in 1986.

Chelsea Villezcas

Chelsea Villezcas, 21, died Thursday, August 16, 2012 in Hutchinson County.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m., Monday, at Keeler Baptist Church with Randy Bartley, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Westlawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Chelsea was born October 5, 1990 in Borger to Robert Thomas and Rhonda Hodges. She was a graduate of Borger High School and was a loving mother, wife, daughter and granddaughter.

Borger council to receive budget

It is budget time again for the City of Borger.
During its upcoming meeting, the Borger City Council will act to receive the proposed 2012-13 fiscal year operating budget and will schedule a public hearing to receive comment.
This action will take place at the council’s regular meeting, set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.

Preparations begin for HOPE!

Preparations are beginning for the upcoming Hutchinson County Oil Patch Extravaganza (HOPE) at the Crutch Ranch. Those working on this year’s event gathered at the ranch Saturday morning for a cow patty pickup. Continue to watch the Borger News-Herald for more details on this exciting event!

Blood drives coming up in Borger and Fritch

August 20, 2012

The more blood given, the more lives saved.
Borger and Fritch will join with Coffee Memorial Blood Center and save many lives. These blood drives are less than a few days away and are a week apart from each other. So make sure you join in on saving lives.
First, Borger’s blood drive is on August 23 at the Union Hall, 111 E. Coolidge from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Then on August 27, at First Southern Baptist Fellowship Hall, 520 Overland Trail, Fritch will have its blood drive from 2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
All eligible donors who present to donate will get a free t-shirt.
