Lusk keeps busy over the summer

Former Borger High School baseball standout Max Lusk has kept himself busy this summer. After graduating last May, Lusk traveled with the West Texas Outlaws and played in various cities including Albuquerque, NM, Dodge City, KS, Lubbock, TX, and Omaha, NE.

Get pumped up for the HOPE 7K walk/run

The HOPE 7K run/walk is coming soon to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
“Twenty-five years ago, a small group of people in Hutchinson County started HOPE to raise money to help support those affected by cancer. HOPE is able to raise enough money to fund research and other needs of the American Cancer Society. The ACS is a community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service,” said HOPE chairman Wonder Smith.

Stinnett preparing for its annual celebration

It’s just a few more weeks until Stinnett’s annual community celebration.
This year’s theme is “Home Is Where The Heart Is.”
Gather your family and head out for some fun at the Stinnett Celebration on September 6, 2012.
The celebration includes a community picnic at the Stinnett City Park before the lighting of the big “WT” at 6 p.m.
On September 7, residents will gather for the West Texas homecoming game and on September 8 the parade and festivities will take place.

Borger ISD board approves resignations, new hires

The Borger ISD board approved two resignations and several new hires during its regular meeting last Thursday.
Resignations accepted by the board were from Kayla Barton, a teacher at Gateway Elementary, and Sarah Meier, a teacher at Borger High School.
The board approved the following new hires with the following contract terms for the upcoming school year:

Probationary – 11 month – 187 days
Roberto Duran, teacher, Crockett Elementary
Sharla Harmon, counselor, Paul Belton/Gateway/Crockett
Rachel Hughett, teacher, Crockett Elementary
Ginger Nunez, teacher, Paul Belton Elementary

Levi Cox

Levi Cox, 36, of Fritch, passed away, Saturday, August 11, 2012.
Levi David Cox was born July 19, 1976 in Borger, TX to Walter and Patti (Simmons) Cox. Mr. Cox was employed by D & D Amusement.
Mr. Cox is preceded in death by his father, Walter David Cox.

Roseylee Kathryn Palmer

Roseylee Kathryn Palmer, 88, of Mt. Ida, Arkansas, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012. She was born September 27, 1923 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to the late Jeremiah and Arizona Steen. She was an avid motorcyclist, rode a Harley until she was 80 years old, and was a gifted painter. She was an Art Professor for 30 years at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas.
Roseylee is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Jerry Palmer and wife Phyllis of Mt. Ida, Arkansas.
