Team Industrial Services, Inc. admits to releasing pollutants in the air at nearby refinery

At a hearing Tuesday, Team Industrial Services, Inc., pleaded guilty to putting citizens' health at risk in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Clinton E. Averitte in federal court in Amarillo and was charged with a misdemeanor offense.
A small number of non-management employees from the Borger office admitted to releasing hazardous pollutants into the air and placed others in danger of death or serious bodily injury during this leak detection and repair service required by the Clean Air Act at Valero McKee refinery in Sunray, according to the Amarillo Globe News.

Beverly May Axelrod, 90, of Borger died Friday July 6, 2012 in Borger. Cremation was under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. The private burial was held on Sunday, July 15 in Tulsa, OK.

Important info for Borger High School Athletes

July 18, 2012

Any high school athlete who will be participating in football, volleyball or cross country needs to come by the athletic office and pick up the forms that they will need to have filled out and ready to take to the first day of practice. Forms will be available beginning July 23rd –July 26th and July 29th-August 2nd from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Forms need to be picked up in the Athletic office at the high school. ***All athletes must have a physical to be able to participate.

Cross Country:

HC3 set to hold annual telethon

The Hutchinson County Crisis Center is set to host its annual telethon.
This year’s telethon will be the best yet, with plans in the works to auction off a Borger Police Officer to almost everything under the sun.
The telethon is held once a year to raise needed funds for the HC3 program and to help child and adult victims of sexual assault and family violence.
This year’s telethon is Saturday, July 28, 2012 in the Phillips Building, 300 W. 6th Street from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Young heroes

Annadon Keys, Johnson Park Youth Center Supervisor, said the community always hears about the youth in the community that have done something bad, but she prefers to hear about the ones who are awesome. There was an accident at the Johnson Park Youth Center on Saturday, July 14, 2012. A young man had fallen in the men’s locker room and was unconscious. Mayson Dompe, Blake Gray and Brant Gray found him in the locker room and ran and notified a lifeguard immediately. Keys said that because of these three HEROES the young man was able to receive medical attention as soon as possible.

Xcel Energy warns customers about billing scam

Xcel Energy is warning customers of an apparent national scam targeting utility customers that involves attempts to obtain Social Security numbers and bank routing numbers.
The scam claims that the federal government is providing credits or applying payments to utility bills. Customers are being told they can make a utility payment by using a bank routing number that is supplied by the scam artists. After the scammers obtain the victims’ personal information, customers are given a phony bank routing number to pay their bills.

Council approves EDC budget, strategic plan

The Borger Economic Development Corporation has received the okay from the Borger City Council to move forward with its plans for the upcoming year.
The council acted Tuesday to approve the EDC’s budget and strategic plan for 2012-13. Dan Redd, BEDC CEO, was present to share his thoughts on both.
Redd said in terms of the budget for next year, $561,000 has been budgeted to cover projects. $200,000 is in the form of guaranteed loans.
“It’s good to have those projects,” he said. “It’s good to be spending that money.”
