Marcus Clytee “Shorty” Armstrong

July 25, 2012

Marcus Clytee “Shorty” Armstrong, 87, of Fritch, TX passed away, Monday, July 23, 2012.
“Shorty” Armstrong was born Wednesday, June 4, 1925 in Wister, OK to Marcus P. and Blanche Ann (Estes) Armstrong. He married Elizabeth Irene Murrin on January 16, 1948 in Wilburton, OK. Clytee resided in the Phillips/Fritch area since 1933. He resided in Phillips from 1933-1986. He then moved to Fritch, TX in August 1986. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Company after 42 years as a stillman.

Tammy Young, 47, of Stinnett, TX, passed away, Sunday, July 22, 2012 in Amarillo, TX.
Tammy Kay Lewis Young was born February 23, 1965 in Borger, TX to Tommy and Margie (Yake) Lewis Sr. She was a beautician and member of the First Assembly of God Church in Stinnett, TX.
Ms. Young is preceded in death by her father, Tommy Lewis Sr. and her brother, Tommy Lewis Jr.
Survivors include her mother, Margie Lewis of Stinnett, TX; her son, Chad Young and wife Samantha of Borger, TX; and her granddaughter, Scarlett Boyett of Borger, TX

Barbara Ann Miller

Barbara Ann Miller, 74, died Monday, July 23, in Amarillo.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at the 1st Baptist Church in Borger with Pastor Steve Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Local residents show sympathy for victims in Colorado massacre

July 25, 2012

The Colorado massacre at a midnight release for “The Dark Knight Rises,” caused a stir everywhere, including among local residents.
As the new Batman movie played in a Aurora, Colo. theater, a gunman, identified as 24-year-old James Holmes, dressed in black and wearing a helmet, body armor and a gas mask, stepped through one of the theater doors.
He then threw gas canisters, filling the theater with smoke and opened fire on the innocent bystanders using a military-style semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun and a pistol, stopping only to reload.

Alton Lee Tennell

Alton Lee Tennell, 72, of Fritch, passed away, Saturday, July 21, 2012.
Alton Lee Tennell was born Monday, March 25, 1940 in Vernon, TX to Edward Tennell and Lucille (Hallmark) Tennell. Mr. Tennell was a heavy equipment operator for Zachry. He was a Seventh Day Adventist. Mr. Tennell played football and basketball at Harrold High School, where he won many trophies for those sports. He also won trophies in 4H and FFA.

Stinnett Celebration just a little over six weeks away

It’s just a little over six weeks until Stinnett’s annual community celebration. So, gather your family and head out to Stinnett Celebration on September 6, 2012. The celebration includes a community picnic at the Stinnett City Park before the lighting of the big “WT” at 6 p.m.

County tables action on burn ban

July 24, 2012

The County Commissioners met Monday morning to make a few decisions for Hutchinson County, one of those pertaining to the burn ban.
The commissioners tabled action to continue the burn ban. According to Hutchinson County Fire Marshal Danny Richards, the county will see a few fires here and there, but he does not find it necessary to put a burn ban in place until it becomes a major threat.

Nutterville 2012 set for this weekend

Nutterville 2012 is set for this weekend, and local and area residents are encouraged to come and have fun for a great cause.
The event is set for July 27-28 and will be held two and a half miles west of Stinnett on Highway 152.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Hutchinson County Cares, Inc., an organization dedicated to the memory of Casey Aylor.
The mission of the organization is to assist and positively affect the lives of children and families in the community. Entrance to the event is $30 a person, and children 12 and under are free.
