Truck driving meeting to be held at FPC

July 16, 2012

Frank Phillips College is coordinating a Truck Driving Training for local business and industry in conjunction with Amarillo College. Amarillo College has a comprehensive Truck Driving School and would like to visit with area business and industry representatives to determine their needs in the hopes that classes can be offered locally.

BORGER & Formerly of Clarendon - Virginia Cook Smith, 88, died Thursday, July 12, 2012, in Amarillo, TX.
Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, in Robertson Funeral Directors Saints Roost Chapel in Clarendon with Rev. Rick Nichols, Pastor of Central Baptist Church in Borger and Rev. John Denton officiating.
Interment was in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Arrangements were under the direction of Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Virginia Idell Smith was born March 28, 1924 in Donley County to Clark Leak and Ella Moon Cook. 

Charles Loyd Hicks

Charles Loyd Hicks passed away July 10, 2012 in Bartlesville, OK. Loyd would have been 95 years old in August. He was a Baptist and served many years as a teacher, treasurer and Deacon. Loyd worked as roustabout and pumper in the NE Oklahoma oil fields.
Loyd is predeceased by an infant daughter, four brothers and Bernice, his wife of 71 years.

Barbara LanellEarnest, 74, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 in Borger.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 16, in the Minton Memorial Chapel, in Borger with Rev. Leonard Forsythe officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Barbara was born to John William Kirby and Margurette (Williams) Kirby in Roberta, Oklahoma. She has lived in Borger since 1948. Barbara is a Borger High School graduate and also attendedFrank Phillips College. She was retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl in 1989.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, in the “Garden Of Serenity” at Westlawn Memorial Park with Pastor Justin Unwin of the Fritch Assembly of God officiating. Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

BISD board approves hires, resignations

The Borger ISD board of trustees voted to approve several new hires along with accepting some resignations during its regular meeting Thursday evening.
The new hires approved by the board were as follows:

Probationary Contract - 10 month - 187 days
Brynna Boston, teacher, BMS
Kellie Hill, teacher, Paul Belton Elementary
Multiple Assignment Probationary Contract - 11 months - 192 days
Dillon Mitchell, teacher/coach, BMS
Krissy Ryan, teacher/coach, BMS
Casey Salmon, teacher/coach, BMS

Multiple Assignment Probationary Contract - 11 months - 202 days

Borger council holding meeting, work session

July 16, 2012

The Borger City Council will be holding a meeting and work session at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
Action will be taken on the Borger Economic Development Corporation’s 2012-13 Operating Budget and Strategic Plan and a water supply agreement between Agrium U.S. and the City of Borger.
An executive session will be held to discuss a surface lease agreement on real property located in Section 2, T.W.M.G. Survey, Hutchinson County and a SBA Communications Ground Lease Agreement.

LifeVest defibrillator saves life of local resident

A Borger resident is the first in the panhandle saved by a wearable defibrillator during his sleep.
Shawn Fraley, 54, of Borger, was recently diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy.
His physician Dr. Rajesh Nambiar was concerned he was at risk for sudden cardiac arrest.
Instead of leaving him unprotected, he prescribed a LifeVest, a wearable defibrillator that patients wear under their clothes which monitors the heart 24 hours a day and seven days a week for Fraley.
Two weeks after Fraley visited with Dr. Nambiar, he went into sudden cardiac arrest while he was sleeping at home.

Work underway on “Kissless, the musical”

July 16, 2012

Work is underway on a summer musical production to be filmed right here in Borger.
The “Kissless, the musical” cast has started rehearsals for the musical production. Production for will take place from July 7th through August 9th, with performances open to the public on August 3rd and 4th.
The Borger Economic Development Board of Directors approved to give Chat Productions a $75,000 grant to help the company prepare to film “Kissless, the Musical”.
