Sepulveda receives Service Above Self Award at Rotary District Conference

The Service Above Self Award is Rotary’s highest honor for individual Rotarians, recognizing those who have displayed exemplary humanitarian service with focus on active involvement in helping others through Rotary.
Each year, current and immediate past district governors and current and past Rotary International directors may submit up to three nominations for this award. Nominations must arrive at RI World Headquarters by September 1, and after all nominations are reviewed, the RI Board selects a maximum of 150 Rotarians to receive the award.

Emily Grace Lee

Emily Grace Lee, infant, died on Friday, June 8, 2012 in Borger. Services for Emily will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12th at the First United Pentecostal Church in Borger with the Rev. Jerry Webb officiating. Interment will be at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors.
Emily is survived by her parents, Robert Lee and Melissa M. Helton; Grandparents, Bobby and Gayla Lee, Jr. of Borger, and Robert and Karen Kelley of Cincinnati, OH. Also, her Aunt Michelle and husband Jason of Cincinnati, OH.

Videll McDonald

CANYON – Videll McDonald, 91, died Friday, June 8, 2012, in Amarillo, TX.
Services were held Monday, June 11, 2012, at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Gene Jones officiating. Burial was at Westlawn Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors.
Mrs. McDonald was born June 5, 1921, in El Reno, Okla., to George and Jesse Gable.
Mrs. McDonald married Charles McDonald on July 2, 1938, in Borger, TX. She was a homemaker.

Enjoy some fireworks this Fourth of July

Hutchinson County residents can enjoy fireworks outside the city limits this Fourth of July.
Yesterday morning, the Hutchinson County Commissioners agreed to take no action on the order prohibiting or restricting certain fireworks in unincorporated areas of Hutchinson County.
There was also no action continuing or rescinding a county burn ban.

Come take a hike at Lake Meredith this summer

Lake Meredith National Recreation Area has opened the Harbor Bay East leg of the new South Shore Trail System for hiking.
This trail starts at the old Harbor Bay boat launch ramp and runs about two miles to the northeast towards Fritch Canyon.

Sheriff’s Posse holding 55th annual rodeo

The Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Posse is preparing for its 55th annual rodeo.
The rodeo will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Sheriff’s Posse arena, which is located at the end of Bulldog Boulevard, past the stadium and softball fields. Admission is $5. Hours for the rodeo will run from 10 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m.
Four Corriente All-Around Saddles and six All-Around Buckles will be awarded at the rodeo and each contestant will receive a participation award.
Age groups are as follows:
Ladies – Girls 5 & Under, 6-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15-18, Adult

Viewing will be at Minton’s Funeral Home in Fritch, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Chris Rawlinson at Gateway Baptist Church at 10:00 am Wednesday June 13, 2012, with interment at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.

BPD doing its part to enforce tobacco laws

The Borger Police Department is doing its part to enforce tobacco laws within the city limits.
During its regular meeting last week, the Borger City Council approved a resolution authorizing submission of the Tobacco Enforcement Contract Application for Local Law Enforcement Agencies.
This application will be sent to the Texas School Safety Center at Texas State University – San Marcos on behalf of the Department of State Health Services, Mental Health Substance Abuse Division.

Blood drive to be held June 18

First Southern Baptist and Coffee Memorial Blood Center will join together and help local citizens save lives.
The drive will be held June 18, 2012 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in First Southern Baptist Fellowship Hall, 520 Overland Trail.
Every eligible donor who is present to give blood will receive their choice of a free CMBC beach towel, Lifesaver t-shirt or umbrella! (while supplies last).
You must be 17 years or older and a Photo ID or Donor Card is Required to Donate.
