Hollaway Parker

June 18, 2012

Hollaway Parker, age 76, passed away at his ranch in Coleman County on Thursday, June 14, 2012. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 18 in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Daniel Stovall officiating. Private interment will follow under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Hollaway Parker was born November 10, 1935 in Coleman County, Texas, the son of Hollaway Parker, Sr. and Bernice Buck Parker.

BPD issues warning on door to door scam

The Borger Police Department wants to warn local citizens to be on the alert of a possible door-to-door scam being used by a local resident.
According to Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD, the local resident is described as a Hispanic female, in her mid 20s, slender build, approximately 5’7”, approximately 120 pounds, with brown or black hair, and brown eyes.

Bring your voter card on election day

When voters go to cast ballots in the runoff election on July 31, all they need to have with them is a voter registration card or driver’s license.
Jan Barnes, Hutchinson County Clerk, said that voters do not need to have the “special card” that may have been handed out to them when they voted in the May 29, 2012.
“If they didn’t vote in the primary, they can still vote in the runoff election,” she said.
She said if a person voted Democratic in the primary, they will not be able to vote Republican in the runoff, as party lines cannot be crossed in a runoff election.

Borger ISD fills four head coaching positions

June 15, 2012

On Friday morning, Borger ISD Athletic Director Leslie Young announced the hiring of four new coaches who will fill the head coaching positions in four different sports at Borger High School for the 2012-13 school year. The new head coaches include Ron Francis in girls’ basketball, Mike Hill in volleyball, Kevin Hall in boys’ track, and Amy Hall in girls’ track. The four coaches were approved for hiring during the Borger ISD School Board meeting on Thursday, June 14th.

Blood drive to be held June 18

First Southern Baptist and Coffee Memorial Blood Center will join together and help local citizens save lives.
The drive will be held June 18, 2012 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in First Southern Baptist Fellowship Hall, 520 Overland Trail. Every eligible donor who is present to give blood will receive their choice of a free CMBC beach towel, Lifesaver t-shirt or umbrella! (while supplies last).

Bill Jett

June 15, 2012

Bill Jett, age 80, peacefully passed away, Thursday, June 14, 2012 and went to be with his loving wife Barbara Ann Jett. He also joins his father and mother, Joe and Nettie Jett and his brother, Richard Jett.
Bill was born Wednesday, September 30, 1931 on a farm in Hardeman County, TX. He graduated in 1950 from Lockett High School in Vernon, TX. He joined the United States Air Force in December 1951 and honorably served as a radio operator at bases in Alaska and Washington State. He was discharged December 1955.

Donald F. “Sailor” Depew

FRITCH - Donald F. “Sailor” Depew Jr., 58, of Fritch, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
A celebration of life will be from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Harley Acres located on highway 136 between Fritch and Borger. Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.

Runoff election set for July 31

The runoff election for local, state, and national offices is set to take place on July 31.
Hutchinson County residents will be voting for a new sheriff in this runoff election. Candidates are Don Johnson and Mickey Blackmon. Johnson received 1,104 votes in the primary election, equating to 40.77 percent of the vote.
Michael Lon “Mickey” Blackmon received 906 votes in the primary election, equating to 33.46 percent of the vote.
Republicans and Democrats will each be selecting a nominee for the U.S. Senate seat that will be filled in the upcoming general election.

Sheriff’s Posse rodeo is tomorrow

The 55th annual Hutchinson County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo is tomorrow!
The rodeo will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Sheriff’s Posse arena, which is located at the end of Bulldog Boulevard, past the stadium and softball fields. Admission is $5.
Hours for the rodeo will run from 10 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m.
Four Corriente All-Around Saddles and six All-Around Buckles will be awarded at the rodeo and each contestant will receive a participation award.
