Sandra Hilbert retires from FPC board of regents

On Tuesday afternoon, Sandra Hilbert informed the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents that she was retiring from the Board of Regents effective immediately.
Hilbert’s retirement announcement was made during the board’s June regularly scheduled meeting and followed the reading of Dr. Ed Quiros’s letter of resignation from the board.
In her retirement announcement, Hilbert told the board that serving on the board has been great and she appreciated the opportunity to serve as a member.

FRITCH - Terri Dawn Strickland, 52, died Monday, June 18, in Fritch.
Services will be Thursday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fritch Church of Christ, with Richard Kasko officiating. Interment will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at . Arrangements are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Fritch.
Terri was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, to Don and Sue Hartranft. She was married to Randy Strickland on April 7, 1989 in Fritch, TX. She has been in the Fritch area for 24 years. She and Randy are the owners of Shirts Happen in Fritch.

BPD seeking to identify theft suspect

The Crime Stoppers and Borger Police Department are seeking the help of the public in identifying a suspect or suspects pertaining to an attempted theft.
Lt. Anthony Griffin of the BPD said that near the end of the month of May, the suspect or suspects made an attempt to withdraw money from an account holder at a local credit union.
The suspect had the account holder’s withdrawal slip but had forged the account holder’s signature.

Dr. Quiros steps down from FPC Board of Regents

On Monday afternoon, the Frank Phillips College Board of Regents accepted the resignation of Dr. Ed Quiros. Quiros has served on the FPC Board of Regents since 1992, where he has been reelected to the position four times.
During Monday’s Board of Regents meeting, Board Chair Conny Moore read Quiros’ resignation letter, in which the doctor described his time on the board as an honor and a privilege.

Catheron Upson, 84, of Borger, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 in Borger.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at the Minton Memorial Chapel with Pastor Shawn Dunigan of Fellowship Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the “Garden of Love” at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Assistance needed in solving recent theft

The Borger Police Department and Crimestoppers are seeking assistance in solving a recent theft.
On Monday, May 21, 2012, BPD responded to 300 East Tenth Street in regards to a theft call.
It was discovered that sometime between 8 a.m. on May 20 and 7:50 a.m. May 21, a suspect or suspects took a pallet of wire from the inside of a job site at this location.
The pallet contained three spools of 350 aluminum wire, each spool being 1,000 feet of wire.

Council to finalize land annexation

June 18, 2012

The annexation of land for a new Wal-Mart Supercenter is set to be finalized Tuesday during the regular meeting of the Borger City Council.
The council will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, in the city council chambers of Borger City Hall, 600 North Main.
Action will be taken on the final reading of an ordinance annexing a 16.361 acre tract of land in Section 23, Block “Y”, Arnold and Barrett-Morris and Cummings Survey.
Also pertaining to the annexation, the council will act on an ordinance directing changes to the zoning districts and updating the zoning district map.
