Today, we drive safer cars on safer roads. Decades of public information campaigns have made most of us safer drivers, but car accidents are still the leading cause of death for people between the ages of three and 34 in this country. Improvements in technology will continue to help bring those death numbers down, but most car accidents are caused by human error. The best way to end the risk of being involved in an accident is to practice safe driving behaviors.

The City of Borger has given its support to Texas Gas Service as it seeks to approve a cost of service adjustment filing.
The action was taken by the Borger City Council at its regular meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Eddie Edwards, Borger City Manager, said that TGS last filed a full rate case with the City of Borger in 2008. During that case, one of its requests was a cost of service adjustment clause.

Local citizens have the opportunity to give blood this July and honor their favorite local hero at the same time.
The Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be hosting the Borger Wal-Mart Blood Drive from 2-6:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2012. A bloodmobile will be onsite at Wal-Mart, 1414 West Wilson.
All eligible donors who present to donate will receive a free Boots vs. Badges T-Shirt. While on site, donors can vote for their favorite local hero, either law enforcement or fire officials.

On 04/22/09 the Borger Police made an additional arrest in the Burglary of the BCAC at Frank Phillips College. Derrick Cody Sampel, W/M, 10/06/88, of Houston TX, was arrested on the felony charge of Burglary of a building. Sampel was released on a $7,500 bond.

The City of Borger is doing its part to stop the flooding problem in the Austin Street area of town.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the council approved action on a fee proposal from Parkhill, Smith, and Cooper for the study and design of an Austin Street drainage project.
Eddie Edwards, Borger City Manager, said there have been flooding issues in the past at Austin and Fifth Streets.
“We are thankful for the rain, but it does create problems sometimes,” he said.
The Borger ISD board of trustees accepted several resignations and approved the hiring of new staff members at its regular meeting Thursday.
The board accepted the resignations of Rita Burcham, first grade teacher at Gateway Elementary; and Patricia Ferguson, a sixth grade English language arts teacher at Borger Middle School.

A Borger man has pled guilty to sexual assault of a child.
On Tuesday, June 19, Judge William D. Smith, 84th District Judge, sentenced Shannon Doyle Davis, 41, of Borger, to 28 years and 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on two charges.
On Tuesday, Davis pled guilty to one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of prohibited sexual conduct, according to Franklin McDonough, Assistant District Attorney for the 84th District.

The process of annexing land for a proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter has been completed by the City of Borger.
During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Borger City Council finalized an ordinance annexing a 16.361 acre tract of land in Section 23, Block Y, Arnold and Barrett-Morris & Cummings Survey.
