Local players take part in All-Star baseball games

June 4, 2012

This past weekend, three Hutchinson County baseball players were in Lubbock to take part in the Greater West Texas Baseball Coaches Association (GWTBCA) All-Star games at Pirate Field at Lubbock Cooper High School.
2012 Borger High School graduates Max Lusk and Chayse Tracy competed on the 3A/4A East All-Star squad, while 2012 Sanford-Fritch High School grade Tate Murray was part of the 1A/2A/TAPPS North team.

BISD offering free meals to children in community throughout summer

The Borger Independent School District is offering free meals to community-wide children throughout summer.
Borger ISD is taking part in the Summer Food Service Program, starting June 4 and running through July 27, 2012.
Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are for all children of the surrounding area. There will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
Meals will be provided Monday through Friday at Borger Middle School Cafeteria starting at 11:20 a.m.

Donald E. Greenwood, 76, of Fritch died Thursday May 31, 2012 in Amarillo.
Funeral service will be 2:00 Tuesday in the Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Leonard Forsythe of Bible Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park “Garden of Serenity” under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Linda Ann Andersen, 71, formerly of Borger, died Friday May 31, 2012 at her home in Bellaire, Texas.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012 at the Minton Memorial Chapel with Joe Galindo of Dallas officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park in the garden of “Prayer” under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Linda was born September 8, 1940 in Borger. She graduated from West Texas State University in 1963 and obtained a Master’s of Science with Reading Specialist Certification from East Tennessee State University in 1973.

Relay For Life taking place on Friday!

The Hutchinson County Relay For Life is less than a week away!
Local walkers will be going around the clock to fight cancer during this event. Teams will gather at Huber Park in Borger overnight to join the fight against cancer from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 8 until 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 9.
“This celebration brings the numerous groups and individuals concerned about cancer together in an effort to fight back,” Judy Allen, RFL Media Chair, said.

Borger’s Dustin Clark to take part in the 75th annual Oil Bowl

Borger High School 2012 graduate Dustin Clark will participate in the 75th annual Maskat Shrine Oil Bowl all-star game on Saturday, June 9th at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.
Clark had an impressive football career for the Borger Bulldogs as a defensive end, where he was selected as the District 1-3A Defensive MVP and earned All-State honors by the Associated Press and the Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA).
Back in February, Clark signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of North Texas in Denton.

William David Foster

Odessa – William David Foster, 59, of Odessa, formerly of Stinnett, died Monday, May 21, 2012, in Odessa. Private services were conducted by the family and coordinated by Martinez-Smith Funeral Home of Odessa.
David was born April 25, 1953, in Borger, Texas. He was a graduate of Stinnett High School.
David is survived by his wife Maria Trejo Foster, his sons, Shawn Foster of Warren, Ohio, and Jonathan Foster of Elk City, Okla.; his mother, Effie Earls of Dumas, a brother and wife Richard and Sharon Earls of Stinnett, a grandson, nieces, and nephews.

Borger PD release information on Tuesday wreck on Hwy 136

June 1, 2012

A wreck between two vehicles occurred late Tuesday evening on Highway 136.
The accident, which occurred around 8:51 p.m., was between a red 1998 Dodge Ram pickup and a white 2011 Jeep Wrangler.
Inside the Dodge Ram pickup was driver Krista Paige Segars, 23, and passenger Cameron K. Segars, 22, both of Borger.
Inside the Jeep Wrangler was driver Steven Lynn Moore, 51, and passenger Rae Ladawn Moore, 50, both of Borger.
