McKee advances to state rodeo finals in bull riding

Borger High School junior Aaron McKee will compete in the Texas High School State Finals Rodeo in June after becoming the Tri-State and Region One Bull Riding Champion.
Earlier this month, McKee won the region bull riding title at the Tri-State High School Rodeo in Vernon, with the competition drawing over 200 competitors from around West Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
The State Finals Rodeo will take place in Abilene the week of June 10-17th, drawing over 500 competitors from throughout Texas.

Borger Lady Bulldogs earn All-District Softball honors

Seven Borger Lady Bulldogs softball players received District 1-3A All-District honors for their play on the field during the 2012 season.
Senior shortstop Alex Lopez received District 1-3A MVP honors with Pampa junior Bailey Beck.
Three Borger sophomores were named Second Team All-District, which includes pitcher Taylor Hickman, first baseman Katie Ammerman, and outfielder Kyla Baker.
Receiving honorable mention honors were junior catcher Payden Dompe, junior third baseman Taryn “Tootie” Karins, and senior second baseman Dakota Karins.

WHITE DEER – Stephanie Dawn Harrah-Mooney, 38, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at White Deer United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jerry R. Lane, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in White Deer Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

LaVenna Deannn Herron, 48, of Fritch, died Saturday May, 19, 2012 in Borger.
Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Fritch Church of Christ with Richard Kasko officiating. Interment will follow in the “Garden of Devotion” at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Viewing will be Wednesday in Borger at the funeral home.

Cell phone usage results in rollover for Stinnett man

Cell phone usage resulted in a wreck for a Stinnett man early Monday morning.
According to Trooper Darrin Bridges of the DPS, around 6:15 a.m. Monday, driver Andrew Gonzales, 33, of Stinnett stated he was using a cell phone and took his eyes off the road, causing him to drift into northbound lanes and off the road on the east side.
This caused the vehicle to roll several times down a cliff on Highway 136, just a mile north of Canadian River Bridge.
The driver was Lifestarred to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo and is in stable condition.

City of Borger gearing up for park rec program

With summer on the horizon, the City of Borger is gearing up for its park recreation program.
The program will run from June 4 through July 27, 2012. Annadon Keys, director of the Johnson Park Youth Center, said that parents and guardians need to bring their children with them to the JPYC when signing them up for park recreation. Forms need to be read and signed by the parent/guardian as well as the child, and a picture is taken of each child for safety reasons.

FPC Boy’s Basketball Camp scheduled for May 29th through June 1st

Frank Phillips College Men’s Head Basketball Coach Chris Hackett will be hosting a boy’s basketball camp on Tuesday, May 29th through Friday, June 1st at the BCAC.
The camp is open to boys ages 7-17 and is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. each day.
In the camp, Hackett and the FPC Coaching Staff will focus on fundamentals including shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding, defense, and individual offense.
The camp will also feature 1-on-1, 3-on-3, and 5-on-5 leagues, daily competitions, and camp prizes and certificates.

SFHS names top two graduates

Sanford-Fritch High School has named its top two graduates for the Class of 2012.
Natasha Renee Tolley is the valedictorian of this year’s class, holding a 4.0 GPA, and Madison Allen is the salutatorian, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Tolley is graduating with 18 dual college credit hours from Frank Phillips College and Allen is graduating with 20 dual college credit hours from FPC.

JPYC gearing up for summer season

The Johnson Park Youth Center is gearing up for the summer months.
The opening date for the summer at the JPYC is Saturday, May 26, 2012. Summer hours will be from 1-7 p.m. daily.
Annadon Keys, director of the center, said two U-V Systems have been added to the pump room for the pool. She said the systems are expensive but extremely important to the facility.

Car safety checkup set for May 30

Many parents aren’t aware how to install their car seats for their children properly.
An event is being planned in Borger to help them learn how to do just that.
A Car Seat Checkup, sponsored by Panhandle RAC Trauma Service Area A and Safe Kids Panhandle, will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Borger Fire Station, located at 200 North Cedar.
Parents with concerns about the installation of their car seats are encouraged to ask the following questions:
*Does your car seat move when you stop or turn?
*Does your car seat seem too small for your child?
